Well, if the capacitor fails, so will your motherboard, better to get it repaired now under warranty than wait until it does (if it does) die.

Trying to find where it mentions it in the thread, the last bit I saw was an insurance investigator claiming it was most likely a mains power surge.

Through most the pages at the start.
MSI claimed it was an incorrectly inserted USB cable, you know, the ones that can only be put in one way.

Re: High pitched squeek from PC!
He's assumed its a cap. That doesn't necessarily mean it was.

Re: High pitched squeek from PC!
Capacitors do tend to give out a high pitched squeel on there way out. They're about the only component used on motherboards that'll make any sort of noise really. Anything rotational can squeel
Apart from a fan failing, all i can think of is a wire brushing up against a fan, they do make one heck of a noise.
And yes a blown capacitor makes one heck of a mess if it ejects its dielectric fluid. (we did the experiment in phyisics of ramming large voltages through a cap backwards).
Btw the first thing to go in a power surge would be the caps in the psu.

Agreed wish I had images of when one blew up on my old system ( capacitor ) made a hell of a mess.

Re: High pitched squeek from PC!
Are you sure its not coming from the piezo on the board.. A lot of boards have them now instead of a speaker output....
