Question How many different jobs have you worked in your lifetime?

5 different jobs for me.

I started work at 17, after a couple of years finding my feet in the job market where I bounced around I settled into a job for 22 years until redundancy and with my current job I've been there 17 years and hoping it'll carry me through to retirement because I've never been one to move around different jobs, I like job security.

Re: How many different jobs have you worked in your lifetime?

7 in total.

My 3 main jobs were BT (12 Years), Experian (10 Years) and my current job (21 years atm).
I also worked part time (remotely) for Internet Brands for 6 years while also doing my main job.

I worked at BT, via an Agency for 3 years (as well as the 12 years above).
I worked as a driver for 3 months after leaving BT, before joining the Agency.

Finally, my first job, while still at school was part time at a garage, serving petrol

My current job should take me through to retirement (in 3.1 years).

Re: How many different jobs have you worked in your lifetime?

Bloody loads of them, like Hugh I started before leaving school picking spuds, strawberries etc, then into an apprenticeship with British Steel.

After that the World (well the UK) was my oyster, (does contracting count as one job or 57? lol)

An interesting variety of short term jobs between contracts, giving an insight into stuff that many never experience.

The ones I hated most in all that time were in management roles, I just couldn't get on with the back stabbing and 'political' shite that went on from people that desperately wanted to climb the ladder . . and then usually spectacularly fell off anyway.

Would I change anything?

Two things: I really should have joined the RAF as an Airframe Tech after leaving school, and secondly shouldn't have let the first wife talk me out of us emigrating to New Zealand

Re: How many different jobs have you worked in your lifetime?

Can't compete with Hugh's impressive work history but thought my 'messy' employment history might be interesting to someone.

1) Had a part time job in a haberdashery shop for a 3 years before ...

2) I started work in the Civil Service in 1966 and had just taken up my 3rd promotion in 1980 when I became pregnant and ended up in hospital for virtually 9 months until he was born in 1981.

Took an "extended leave of service" and in 1981, a baby in tow ....

3) I decided to help my husband by taking over his accounts, and being a go between with his clients and business partners continuing to do this, until he retired in 2009.

4) In 1999 I was bored working at home on my own so I decided to return to work and ended up being head hunted by an old friend in the Civil Service who was in charge of setting up a new department for the Treasury, so back to the Civil Service.

In 2005 I had to resign from the Civil Service as my 82 year old dad had a bad fall and within days he was living with us and I was his full time carer until 2008 when he sadly died.

5) During most of this time I also worked as a bona fide self employed gilder working with some local antique restorers and 6 months after dad came to live with us I started to take on more home based commissions to fill my time.

6) I did, for 40+ years also sell my own artwork so I guess that was another kind of employment I should count. I certainly paid more income tax 😮*💨

I finally retired 17 years ago, and now, looking back over my work history, I don't know how I managed to fit it all in.

I remember you talking about this on here all those years ago.

I have a feeling I'm going to be asked to become a director of the company I've worked at for 20 years (in May) tomorrow, going to tell the boss that I'll do it on an interim basis until he finds someone more qualified to develop his company or until he sells it, whichever comes first and that there is a time limit on it for me, I don't need the agro, stress or money and I'm only doing it to help him as he stood by me through my mother's death and a going blind diagnoses, before that I was doing something similar with someone else for 5 years and even got our much missed friend Jefferson a job there and before that I had 2 jobs, one doing drug rehab in a hostel and the other for granada technology mucking about with ondigital amongst other things, 2 jobs in 25 years, I'd never have thought that would've happened tbh
