I think Channel 4 will get more business as Disney+ is a major streamer, many of whose customers don't watch Channel 4. And the big deal is not the box sets but the inclusion of the live HD Channel 4 feed which makes Disney+ a distributor of a UK public-service broadcaster's linear channel. And Disney+ benefits as it wants to be more than just a distributor of Disney's back catalogue of Star Wars, Marvel, etc.
So what are the payment arrangement? This is always confidential, can be reciprocal if both get roughly the same benefits, can be advertising revenue-sharing or, perhaps most likely, Disney pays Channel 4 a licencing fee.

Clearly Disney can see the benefits, but it's beyond me, if they are paying for it.

As I said, I did try it.
Tried on-demand for a couple of programmes I recorded overnight. One not available with unknown with other episodes/ The other one also not available.
That's without the hoops of registering(for some inexplicable reason), having to sign in again and again, have to switch to PC to do those, wait for the app to start with copious black or white screens, displaying in UHD when the content isn't in UHD and might not even be in HD. In all that time and could've easily watched 15 minutes of a recorded programme.

My God, the TiVo system seems to be very complicated compared with what I'm experiencing with the e60 software.

Nothing to do with TiVo. That's the point. Using TiVo is simple and straightforward. It's going outside of TiVo where it gets complicated.

With a on-demand only set-up, there can be no EPG.
When I tried to use on-demand yesterday as a test, the number of different hoops I had to jump through were quite ridiculous. That's before getting into the absence of other functionality that is present in any video playing app. In the time it takes to start watching an on-demand programme, I might well have finished watched the recorded version. Just crazy.
Sky Stream is due to make a change where you can flag programmes as ones to be recorded. The recordings are kept by Sky. Helps keeping a list of programmes yet to be watched, rather than having to keep detailed records somewhere.

You need to do a sign in once to view your on-demand or catch-up.
As for Sky's recordings: these are not personal cloud recordings as everyone just watches whatever cloud copies Sky makes. This is really catch-up in disguise. And Sky cannot record everything due to rights issues, e.g. BBC and ITV force you to use their apps.

I find that I repeatedly have to sign in. Still no valid reason for having to do so. Not as if it's a paid account.

All of these features have existed in SkyOS before, but this is the first time the broadcaster has distinguished between them. Since neither Sky Glass nor Sky Stream has any storage onboard, Record or Record Series will prompt the British broadcaster to make a copy on its own servers, which will be available for the next year.
|
A key thin is that they end up on a single list, not buried wherever.

For exampe, if you only care about the Singapore Grand Prix and not the entire Formula One season, the addition of a Record command means you'll be able to add that event to My Library ...not hours and hours of F1 races.
|
Then there's playback speeds. With V6/TiVo I can watch a one hour programme in 20 minutes. Same with most(if not all) video player apps, eg vlc.
