Tommy Robinson guilty of harassing Mail journalists

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq2d6z36pp53o

Quote:
Political activist Tommy Robinson has been convicted of harassing two Daily Mail journalists.

A jury at Southwark Crown Court found the 43-year-old, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, guilty of two counts of harassment causing fear of violence.

The case concerned Robinson's response to Daily Mail and Mail Online articles from August 2024, showing him on holiday in Cyprus while riots took place in England following the Southport murders.

The court had heard how Robinson, from Bedfordshire, used "bully-boy, intimidatory tactics" to frighten reporters Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber, forcing them to employ security or leave home.

Robinson had denied the charges, saying he had "panicked" and had been "scared" when the Daily Mail published a story accusing him of "stoking race riots from his sunbed".

He told the jury he felt the article had "endangered" his family by revealing they were staying in a hotel near Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

After the guilty verdicts, Frank Ferguson, the head of the Crown Prosecution Service's Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said Robinson had "weaponised social media and subjected two journalists to a campaign of harassment which caused them serious fear of violence".

Robinson was granted bail ahead of his sentencing, scheduled for 16 December.

Harassment causing fear of violence can carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, or up to 14 years if the offence is racially or religiously aggravated.

Don't know the bloke, never spoke to him or even met him. Doesn't bother me in the slightest what he does to make headlines . . . although he seems a bit stupid (as are most) to use a large, well used and probably closely monitored social media platform for his outbursts of anger.

You'd think a bloke with his 'credentials' would be a tad more circumspect, but when you've made yourself a target I guess you're screwed anyway

Did this "singer bloke" have previous form, such as

- jailed for 12 months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault with intent to resist arrest, for which he received a concurrent term of three months.

- arrested for assaulting a police officer during clashes on Armistice Day alongside five other EDL members

- convicted of assault for an attack at an EDL march in Blackburn where he headbutted someone, and was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months.

- found guilty of leading a brawl that included 100 Luton Town football fans into a fight with Newport County fans and was given a suspended 12-month prison sentence and banned from Luton football matches for 3 years.

- being jailed for 10 months for travelling to the USA on his friend’s passport.

- sentenced to prison for 18 months for committing mortgage fraud with the crime dating back to 2009, after pleading guilty in November 2013 to committing £160,000 worth of mortgage fraud

- being charged with contempt of court and convicted after filming inside Canterbury Crown Court and was sentenced to three months imprisonment.

- being arrested and found guilty of contempt of court after Facebook live streaming outside Leeds Crown Court for an hour despite their being reporting restrictions on the case. Following various appeals he was jailed for nine months at the Old Bailey in July 2019.

- being banned from all football matches for four years after he assaulted a football fan in Portugal in 2019.

- being convicted at Westminster Magistrates’ Court of stalking a couple and was given a five-year ban from contacting them or referring to them.

Re: Tommy Robinson guilty of harassing Mail journalists

Whilst I personally think Brown should have been imprisoned, are you saying his previous convictions in the UK (if any) are the same as four convictions for violent offences, two contempts of court, a mortgage fraud, and various other offences?

Nothing in your link shows any "previous form" in this country…

Thats ok Hugh hitting someone twice with a bottle is nothing compared to that. It is good he got to walk free and no way imposes a further risk to the public and will not see this as an "I got away with a violent assault" I am happy justice was done..

Sarcasm mode off .

Dunno how an assault with a bottle twice only counts as affray the injustice there is in the CPS and the charges

With the judge saying "Brown avoided immediate jail time, with the judge emphasizing that commercial success does not grant preferential treatment under the law." I think that is exactly what happened here it is not like he gave someone a slap he hit them with a bottle and there was a 2nd person charge so it was 2 of them causing the incident . But Tommy is a bad bad man Chris Brown must be lovely

Oh and Hugh there is this

Quote:
Chris Brown has an extensive legal history, most notably a 2009 felony assault conviction for attacking his then-girlfriend Rihanna, which resulted in five years of probation, community service, and mandatory counseling. He also served 108 days in jail in 2014 for violating that probation after being removed from a rehabilitation center.
Oh and this

Quote:
2013 Washington, D.C. assault: Convicted of misdemeanor assault for breaking a man’s nose; sentenced to time served.
2016 Los Angeles arrest: Arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening a woman with a gun; charges were never filed.
2018 California charges: Charged with possessing a restricted species (a capuchin monkey) without a permit; charges were dropped after he forfeited the monkey.
2019 Paris arrest: Questioned on suspicion of rape and drug charges but released without being charged.
You really should have fact checked

What difference does where he committed the other crimes make? it is a criminal history just like Tommys where he committed the crime is irrelevant. Just front it out Hugh you should have checked first and using Browns suspended sentence as a way to show how much worse Tommy is failed

I wouldnt worry 'Tommy' is innocent. It's Stephen Yaxley-Lennon that has been found guilty (again).

Not worried and I am not bothered about him. I used to be interested in what he stood for while he was outing nonces but every other week there is another GoFund me so I know longer have any sympathies for his causes
