Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

We are in the middle of a cost of living crisis with souring energy bills predicted to rise 25% in January and fuel prices being what they are . Any governement taking serious the increase of a charge for something like the BBC will create uproar. I just do not see it happening

I totally get that. But the objection to this is going to be from those that do not pay for their TV licence. Saying you don't watch BBC is a bit contentious at best, or saying don't have a TV (pushing it). If it's cheaper than the licence fee now then there'll be a lot that will agree to it.

But then there's that choice in paying for it than being forced to pay for it is the main point. But I don't know what the internet and a broadband 'tax' has anything to do with the BBC. So basically using this tax as an excuse and nothing more to make people pay it. That is something I don't agree with.

At least this way there's be no more needs to have vans to parked up outside your house with their radars to see if you're watch the BBC, lol.

Radical idea why not let the public vote on it after all they are civil servants and should be serving those who voted them in . A group of rich out of touch elite making decisions for us without even consulting us

Simple vote do you want to keep the BBC as is or not. Lets me honest the BBC has lost a lot of faith over the last 20 years and the age of unquestioned propaganda is long since gone .

I think that would apply to VAT as well, or any kind of tax.

do labour voters pay income tax on their benefits, i thought it was the right wingers who worked and paid tax so labour voters didn't have to

The BBC is very much the author of its own misfortune. The endless corporate reads over closing credits, thanking people for paying their TVL, and the seemingly endless variants of that annoying Romesh advert they keep playing, is some indication of how deep in the doo-doo they know they are. Cancelling Ru Paul’s Womanface Minstrel Show is perhaps a small but interesting insight into how they might be starting to realise that their cultural obsessions have been turning people off.

Funding the BBC out of general taxation has long been considered a no-no because it puts the BBC much more directly at the mercy of government which isn’t a good look for a broadcaster that’s supposed to be impartial. The present system allows the BBC to manage collection itself (even though the licence fee money still passes through the government’s general fund on its way to broadcasting house).

A service tax, even a hypothecated one, makes the management and collection of the money an HMRC matter which the BBC might be uncomfortable with. But then again, they’re losing money hand over fist right now, and they’re clearly getting desperate, so who knows what might happen.

Really wonder how many presenters they need on a show ie morning live , 6 + . Another bug is at least on BBC Wales one weather forecast followed be another one . Even question why you need someone else to tell you what it is. Also noticed that local channel reports on something ie plane crash on Anglesey.and nation channel then reports the same thing with a different presenter .
