Because it's been around for years and has not been adopted by the mainstream. It's just a speculative asset that people hold as a gamble to make money, or to enable transfers of cash that people would rather not be tracked, such as illegal activity.
Because of its volatility, it's never going to be used as a means to pay for things.
You mentioned NFTs later in your comment; you're a few years behind on that. Those have entirely collapsed after people finally twigged that they were paying tens of thousands of dollars for a .jpg of an ape.

The people who make money from crypto are the infrastructure providers (who run trading platforms and crypto exchanges, and collect transaction and withdrawal fees from users), token creators, and early traders, while the returns for everyday retail investors vary greatly…
