Slavery Repatriations . .

Jamaica to bring slavery reparations petition to King Charles

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyqvkyekkeo

Quote:
Grange said it could pave the way for a "long outstanding settlement for the hundreds of years of the most horrific abuse that our African ancestors endured".
Quote:
The petition is not a demand for payment.

Grange said: "Once we get the answers, or once we get a response to those questions, then the next steps will be determined."
I wish her well, I really do, especially when she has to deal with the (probably) millions of slave descendants that, in a magnanimous gesture of fair play and good will, we will return (for free) to their ancestral homeland and the lifestyle we stole from them.

That should sort out the housing market, provide numerous job opportunities for those who don't have one, and free up seats on trains & busses.

Re: Slavery Repatriations . .

Although surely they should be claiming reparations from the descendants of the people who actually enslaved their African ancestors - who would be different African ancestors.

At this time Africa was a hodgepodge of warring small states, who routinely enslaved and willingly sold on defeated enemies.

The Arab slave trade was most active in West Asia, North Africa (Trans-Saharan slave trade), and Southeast Africa (Red Sea slave trade and Indian Ocean slave trade), and rough estimates place the number of Africans enslaved in the twelve centuries prior to the 20th century at between six million to ten million. The Ottoman[ie Turkey] slave trade came from raids into eastern and central Europe and the Caucasus connected to the Crimean slave trade, while slave traders from the Barbary Coast raided the Mediterranean coasts of Europe and as far afield as the British Isles and Iceland.
What about Spain and Portugal? They were operating long before the UK got involved.
