1973 off air recording from a U-MATIC machine! (Was U-MATIC the first home video machine??)



Anyone have any others BEFORE 1980?? (Off air)

I remember my school having Philips Betamax video recorders in 1974. Don't know whether price-wise they might've been described as home video recorders, but size-wise they were.

My dad bought the Sony Betamax C5 in around 1981, cost about £500.


It's still in the spare room

You memory may be slightly faulty here.
Phillips didnt do Betamax (which was released by Sony in 1975).
You are most likely thinking of the the Philips N1500 or Philips N1502.

We had its successor (the N1700) as a home video recorder in 1977.

I assumed it was Betamax and from Philips. I remember it was cassette based and Philips had donated electronic equipment to the school.
