He might have the mandate of the people of Clacton but he could find he has to resign again if the investigations go against him.

Well yes, on our meager pension we often have to do a 'nudge nudge wink' deal for cash, which would definitely leave us open to the risk of extensive scrutiny if we went into politics . . or any other position where it's already rife

Re: Reform UK's chronicles
Amusingly, "Posh George" wrote a book called How to Launder Money: A Guide for Law Enforcement, Prosecutors and Policymakers, co-written with Lawrence Burke Files
https://archive.ph/5yse8
Quote:
In one chapter entitled “The Art of the Bribe”, Cottrell and Files set out how politicians can be bought. They argue that bribes, if in the form of small gifts rather than cash, can be passed off as “a mistake of overexuberance in friendship”.
They add: “Long-term relationships keep the bought person in hand while you’re making money and the cohort is making money . . . Money from corruption is a bit like fiscal heroin; one fix and you know you need more.”
Cottrell and Files provide several examples of non-cash gifts including “[p]aying some of the target’s expenses”, adding “many expenses can be paid that would pass unnoticed and untraceable”.
Cottrell and Files have said their book is aimed at educating law enforcement and the public about criminal techniques.
The book provides guidance on how to act if bribery is found out, stating: “lawyer up immediately”.
“At every step and every turn, at every possible point, counter and attack the accuser from all sides. Use the courts, mass media, personal media and hire people to write and place stories.”
|
Cottrell’s lawyers said that the book was written to warn about bribery and the facilitation of corruption, but pretty sure telling people how to carry out bribery and the facilitation of corruption isn't covered under the dictionary definition of"warn"...

Farage has resigned Hugh, the crusade is over, no need to 'research' any more

Re: Reform UK's chronicles
Ed Davey called for the major parties not to contest the by-election and both Labour and the Conservatives have agreed not to. Has Farage's plan backfired or is this the establishment ganging up on him?

If he wins the by-election, the Parliamentary Inquiry resumes…
And even if he doesn’t, it still might…
https://committees.parliament.uk/pub...67945/default/
Quote:
Suspension of investigations
39. The Commissioner has the discretion to suspend investigations at any time. This
may, for example, happen if the Member suffers ill health or a bereavement during the
investigation, or where a related police investigation is taking place.
40. If Parliament is dissolved or the Member otherwise ceases to be a Member while an
investigation is in progress, the Commissioner will suspend their investigation until the
Member is re-elected. If the Member is not returned to Parliament, the Commissioner
will decide if it is appropriate and proportionate to resume their investigation.
