Just 3 points, and a goal difference of -3 (atm) - this seems unlikely to get them a 3rd place progression.
Yes agree they're unlikely to remain in the competion

I have a feeling they may just scrape through to the next round.

I'll be amazed if they do but if they do then I'll be pleased for them.

Re: World Cup 2026

If they do qualify third in their group, they’d most likely face either Germany, Mexico, or (probably) France.

Re: World Cup 2026

Two, possibly three teams can overtake them, which would push them out.
On the other hand, two teams could potentially move below them if they lose by more than one goal.
So its still possible for them to scrape through, but I would not like to bet on it.

Re: World Cup 2026

Thats becasue it has way more matches than any previous world cup.

There have already been more group matches (54) than the entire 1994 world cup, inc the final (which had 51).

By the time its done, there will have been 104 matches (the 2022 world cup had 64 matches).

After last night's surprises, Scotland are safe to book their tickets home... Under 5% chance of getting through.

Re: World Cup 2026

With Senegal winning today as well, its looking very much like they will be out.

Strange but true fact today.
Both this evenings matches have English Refs;

Senegal v Iraq has Anthony Taylor.
Norway v France has Michael Oliver.

Jarred Gillett (Australian, but a PL ref so counts as ours) is VAR on the Norway v France match as well

Your're not suggesting an English stitch up surely!

Re: World Cup 2026

Iran, all but eliminating Scotland, now look likely to go through and would enjoy a slightly less restrictive trip to Canada to play Switzerland.

Unless of course results in all of the remaining groups go against them.

Re: World Cup 2026

Croatia(by 3 or more) and Algeria(by 2 or more) would have to both lose badly and Congo not win against Uzbekistan. Not completely impossible, but unlikely.

Re: World Cup 2026

So far another dull game from England. Hard to get behind the team that just doesn't seem to want to be there.
