Re: Starmer’s chronicles

Apparently there are over 100 MP's calling for starmer to resign, I would love for him to do it but as a middle finger to Labour and those who wanted him out, doing what he always demanded of the conservatives, I hope if he does resign he also calls for a general election!

Yes, Hugh, but he criticised the Conservatives for not calling an election when they changed their leader and said it would be different under Labour.

He won't because he is a multi faced liar.

He called for a general election each time the conservatives swapped leader, he called for a general election when Liz Truss was blamed for crashing the economy which she didn't, it was down to bond/gilt yields and the bank of england iirc, since 99% of her policies never actually got implemented.

He called for one at every possible opportunity, now he will be his 2 faced spineless self and just allow Burnham the guy who wanted people to pay £18 each way per day to drive in and out of all areas of Greater Manchester, no matter what they drove, to become the PM when the leadership challenge is launched.

Burnham is worse than Starmer as difficult as that is to imagine, but hey ho he will be the next PM and just wait, taxes will sky rocket, congestion charges, ULEZ, Clean Air Zones will be put across the whole country, personal transport will be banned if it uses a motor even an electric one.

The guy is a clown and will, force the UK without a vote back into the EU, taking the Euro as currency, getting rid of the army, navy and air force in order to solely rely on the EU Army!

To be fair, every time a current PM has been ousted, the opposition has called for an immediate General Election on the grounds that xyz has ’no mandate’. It’s expected, it’s just a part of the political process, even though everyone understands that this is not how our (unwritten) Constitution works.

The key difference is that this will be an orchestrated coup with a vastly different agenda in mind.

Burnham has pledged not to raise taxes so his plans can't vary too much economically. Socially he's more conservative than Starmer but that probably puts him closer to the views of the electorate.
Truss's unelected agenda was vastly different from that of her predecessors.

We could say that about the six previous prime ministers in the last 10 years with Burnham very likely to be the seventh.

Quite ridiculous in my view.

Re: Starmer’s chronicles

Andy "I Am Legend" Burnham is the current flavour of the month in political circles.

To the general public he's probably just another 'wannabe' PM with big promises and grand ideas that will fail to materialise.

Who needs a holiday in Europe these days? With temperatures in the 30s, a football team playing very well* and a new PM every two years, England is becoming more European than ever!

Re: Starmer’s chronicles

Ultimately, Starmer has largely been a failure and lost all confidence of his MPs. It's slightly surprising how badly he has done, but he seemed to have no plan at all.

It was the cost of borrowing that spiked after she announced large tax cuts with no plan to pay for them. She lost the confidence of the bond markets, which spiked everyone's mortgages, and the Tories had to get rid of her. It was her fault.

You can't say she wasn't warned, either. Sunak himself had said her plans would cause this, but she played the 'project fear' card and promptly tanked the economy and her leadership.

As for the general election, yes, it will be hypocritical. It always is when a PM resigns. When Brown took over, there were plenty of people demanding an election that didn't demand it when the Tories changed leader. Now there will be people who demanded an election after each Conservative PM changed that will say no election is needed. Happens all the time.
