Re: What are you reading?
*uncanny coincidence #27*
Guess who, a few days ago, also decided to revisit Murderbot, I'm currently halfway through Network Effect.
If I didn't know better, I'd suggest our interfaces were acting suspiciously . . or I've been compromised
p.s. have you tried any Adrian Tchaikovsky ?

Re: What are you reading?
Only started his stuff a week or two ago.
Yes some of them seem to be 'long winded' and 'over described' in places. Not yet read any of the 'animals/insects' books.
I struggled to the end of Alien Clay, found Service Model* to be decent enough.
* this probably kicked of the Murderbot thoughts

Re: What are you reading?
I was the same with Alien Clay..
I recommend the Edward Ashton books Three Days in April, The End of Ordinary, Mickey7, Antimatter Blues, Mal Goes to War, and The Fourth Consort.
Just reading his latest "After The Fall".

Re: What are you reading?
Cheers, will look for some Edward Ashton, I think that will be a new author for me . . although if he's the typical writer I may have read something in a short story omnibus at some time.
Sometimes I grab those short story collections as a pointer towards other authors, either new or old, that I hadn't 'discovered' yet.

Re: What are you reading?
I got sidetracked reading "2034” by Elliot Ackerman and Admiral James Stavridis - burned through it in two days; liked it so much (never goes where you expect it to go, especially coming from two retired US military officers), I’ve the follow up books (2054 and 2084).
They’re not SF, more near-future techno-thrillers.
