Re: Starmer’s chronicles
Should Andy get over all the hurdles, watch interest rates rise. As he goes on a borrowing spree.

Not entirely a bad thing from my POV, better savings rates.
Its really unclear to me if he'll be good or bad, I know hes served in government before and I cant ever remember much being said about him. I think hes drawn more attention while mayor of Manchester.
Of course, all speculation atm, hes a long way from actually being leader yet.

A good article. I picked out this gem of truth:
https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/16/u...ble-latam-intl
Quote:
Because Starmer ruled out raising the three main sources of taxation during his 2024 election campaign, his government has been constrained, and has had to hunt for revenue from small, politically unpopular sources.
“They picked ‘baddies’ – private schools, farmers, banks – and they whacked them, but then they didn’t get enough money from doing that to do much for anyone else,” said Ansell. “They created a lot of enemies and not a lot of friends.”

It was both. Farage made himself deeply unpopular amongst some nutters, and that’s the main reason for his need for security.

That money came from his appearance on ‘I’m a celebrity’ if you check your facts.

That is correct.

I think some of you are as obsessed with a Farage as they are with Trump. This is the Starmer thread, so what’s all this nonsense - deflection?

Already addressed that in the Reform UK thread. This is meant to be for Starmer.

UK net migration drops to 171,000
The UK's net migration dropped to 171,000 people in the year to December 2025, the lowest since 2012 - excepting the pandemic.
Migration added 171,000 people to the UK's population last year, just over half the level seen in 2024.
That’s down substantially from the peak of nearly a million people early in 2023 and the lowest figure - outside of the Covid pandemic - since 2012.
The number of asylum seekers living in hotels while waiting for their claims to be processed in the UK has fallen to 20,885 in the 12 months to March 2026.
That's down from 30,657 people in December 2025.
The peak was about 56,000 in September 2023 under the last Conservative government.

Re: Starmer’s chronicles
In the current climate, it's not the net migration number that matters.
What matters is the number of military aged people coming to the UK in the boats. Already they outnumber our army.

Does the article now say where they've moved them to? They're still here, just not in hotels anymore.
It's all just whitewash (can I still say that? ) figures stating the bits of info that sound good.
I mean, it doesn't say the number of asylum seekers now living in ex military camps has risen from 12 to 24,000 does it

I wonder why military-age people are fleeing their countries and trying to seek asylum elsewhere?
Could it be that otherwise they are conscripted into indefinite military service under slave-labour like conditions?
