Stopping 02 but want to keep broadband speed

My O2 sim plan with the Volt benefits including broadband speed increase has just gone from £21.79 to £24.29, whereas I could get a similar plan from GiffGaff for between £10 and £15 depending on data. O2 has offers to go down to between £10.50 and £16, but that's just for 6 months and then goes right back up again.
My VirginMedia bill for Gig1, Mega TV including Netflix with ads, anytime chatter is £83.50.
If I try to save £9-£14 by stopping O2 and switching to GiffGaff, I'll presumably drop the Volt benefit and go down to M500. Is there any way to work out how much my VM bill would increase to get back the Gig1 broadband?

Re: Stopping 02 but want to keep broadband speed

Or look on Uswitch for O2 deals, which will keep your Volt benefits.

They’re doing 10Gb for £7, 40Gb for £8, and 75Gb for £10 (all of these are then doubled with your Volt benefits).

I'm sorry if I'm being a bit dim, here, and many thanks for your reply.
When I look at Uswitch for O2 sim only deals, it states they: "Deals not available as upgrades for existing customers."

O2 stopped allowing existing customers getting these offers a couple of months ago. Try ringing O2 to downgrade your SIM deal.

Looking to recently negotiate and recontract my exisiting Volt deal I found that the offered sim prices were too expensive directly via O2.

Previously I have made use of the Uswitch offers but having read that the deals weren't available as upgrades to existing customers, I instead requested my PAC code.

After receiving my PAC code I then logged into MyO2 and was shown new reduced sim offerings. 10GB for £8.50 a month (this has doubled to 20GB) which I accepted since I wasn't using anywhere near the 100GB (50GB doubled) that I was paying for. However my new deal is due to increase by £2.50 to £11 on my next billing date.

According to MyO2 I'm also still currently being offered 20GB for £9.50, 30GB for £11.50, 100GB for £15.50, 200GB for £16.50 and unlimited for £17.50. These tariffs increase by £2.50 each April.

The general consensus shown on the Community Forums is that if you cancel the O2 sim then you will retain the currently upgraded broadband speed until the next time you recontract/regrade. For example https://community.virginmedia.com/di...eplies/5691557

The VMO2 terms and conditions Annex A for Volt section 6 states:-
If you subsequently cancel your eligible O2 Pay Monthly Mobile Plan, where
you are the registered account holder of it, or it is cancelled by the relevant
account holder after the 14 day period referred to in paragraph A.5 above, the
Volt benefits for your Virgin Media services may be lost when you next
recontract to Virgin Media’s services.

This is contrary to section B. Volt Broadband Speed Boost
1. Your speed will only be boosted to the next available Virgin Media broadband
speed tier (up to a maximum of 1Gbps download speed) available to you at
your residential address at the point of you placing your order to become
eligible for Volt benefits. This does not include provision of the Upload Speed
Add-On.
2. You’ll receive confirmation from us when we have applied your broadband
speed boost.
3. In the event that you become ineligible for the Volt benefits for your Virgin
Media services, any applicable broadband speed boost may be removed and
your Virgin Media broadband package will be downgraded to the preceding
speed tier available at the time of boost removal.

Re: Stopping 02 but want to keep broadband speed

You keep your boosted broadband speed if you leave o2. I changed to ID mobile a year ago and I still get 500Mb for the price of 350Mb.

This is also stated on the Virgin Media site in the help section.

Quote:
If you leave O2, you’ll lose your mobile benefits, but you’ll keep your boosted Virgin Media broadband speeds. Likewise, if you leave Virgin Media, everyone in the household on an eligible O2 plan will keep their double mobile data until you upgrade – then, your mobile benefits will stop.

Re: Stopping 02 but want to keep broadband speed

I appreciate all the advice, thank you.
I've requested a PAC and received it, and I'll keep checking my O2 "upgrade" options to see if they offer anything better before changing.

Re: Stopping 02 but want to keep broadband speed

Once again, thanks for the advice.
My O2 didn't seem to come up with any better offers after a week of receiving my PAC. Today, I called into an O2 shop, and I've re-contracted for 24 months with 40GB (plenty) instead of something much larger, and been given half price for 6 months. That's £10.50 then £21 (subject also to increases every April!)
Better than just settling for the automatic £24.79, and I'll be able to offset some of the cost using the Airtime app.

You could have moved to Giffgaff for £10 a month on a rolling monthly contract and they use O2.

I've no idea what I use on my FTTP, I just stream everything and download the odd PS5 update, but it won't be anything like that.

Re: Stopping 02 but want to keep broadband speed

Your account will show your usage no? Or CS will tell. Is your router smart enough?

Three cs are funny. One asked me what do you do lol then said sorry you don't have to tell me. Another said tethering is included in your package so crack on.
