Well it was destroyed and they need to pull down the remaining wall before it falls down. I highly doubt the building that will eventually replace it will look remotely similar.

Still strange to think I was stood across from that building Saturday night waiting on a taxi and after seeing it almost everyday it is no longer there.

I think this will be a litmus test of how Glasgow and Scotland’s political leaders really conceive of the city and the nation in terms of the value of its heritage, its built environment and future potential. Swinney’s talking a good game this week about government assistance, and we know it *can* be done - the building housing the Tesco over the road was gutted in the 80s and reinstated in 2 years. Whether it will actually be done remains to be seen. Sadly like you I’m sceptical.

While I’m ever-keen to put the boot in to the SNP whenever possible, it seems to me this country (by which I mean the entire UK) has slipped into a dark place where we are unable to think strategically. We know the price of everything and the value of nothing, and that’s a potentially fatal flaw when it comes to equipment you hope you’ll never need but has to be there and in working order if the day comes you do actually need it. On Sunday in Glasgow its specialist fire engines in a Victorian city known for buildings going on fire. Elsewhere, it’s a Royal Navy that’s barely able to sail anything anywhere because ships weren’t getting built in anything like the right numbers for more than 30 years on account of the fact that a war wasn’t actually happening right now.

It's again a case of the British electorate wanting low taxes and high services and politicians not being entirely honest with them about it. One way politicians have of trying to manage this dilemma is to get rid of resilience and cut down on things like fire engines and gritting capacity in the hope that any problems don't occur under their watch!
