Re: Smart Meters and Tariffs
Remember companies going bust are not a "problem" for the consumer. That is media spin.

Re: Smart Meters and Tariffs
Pretty sure its a problem for the consumer if they are on a tariff the company they get transferred to cannot do.
---------- Post added at 21:39 ---------- Previous post was at 21:36 ----------
Ofgem stopped them taking on new customers, warning it could revoke its licence if the company failed to demonstrate its financial stability.
Then they decide to impose a £1.5m fine - so how exactly does that help it "demonstrate its financial stability".
Seems Ofgem are the ones putting the final nail in the coffin.

Apparantly you can't get sustainable energy from tomatoes after all...

Re: Smart Meters and Tariffs
Oddly, they are now quoting £150 rather than £88.
Either way, I dont understand how this is going to work for most people (on fixed deals) ?
What is going to reduce ? £150 is 41p a day, so are standing charges going to reduce by 41p (across Gas/Electric) ?
Gas is only 29p a day, while Electric is about 48p, plus surely the fixed prices cannot be reduced, thats what fixed means.

The standing charges are set by the regulator they could change them as long as the total effect allows them to remain solvent. But there are various reasons, some that they don't bother to tell us, that they don't do this.

Re: Smart Meters and Tariffs
Well it turns out it will be done by lowering the price per kWh.
Gas: down 0.31p/kWh (0.35p including VAT).
Electricity: down 3.37p/kWh (3.54p including VAT).
Its "expected" (but not confirmed) that this will be applied to fixed tariffs as well as variable.
