Re: President Trump 2.0
I think Trump's a berk ( just saying), and its embarassing how we're toadying. It's a mark of how a small and vulnerable Country we've become.

You'd have a chance of that if you supported your home town

He was never fit to be president the first time, let alone a second time and now this convicted felon in the so called land of the free is now trying to suppress free speech and opposition in his fascist authoritarian presidency.

and yet people are still 'on his side' - not saying that's right or wrong, but if enough people vote for you you're in.
probably similar to Farage over here

Re: President Trump 2.0
Thing is, Trump IS President and we have to deal sensibly with him in a manner that best suits our needs. When he's gone, we'll have to deal with another awkward sod.

Very much this.
Diplomacy has to be pragmatic. We shouldn’t have to massage his fragile ego just to get him to do what any normally-adjusted individual in the highest public office should instinctively understand, but we don’t act according to what we feel should be, we act according to the way things actually are.
Trump is a lot of very hard work for comparatively little gain (because he’s only onside until the next person gets their chance to whisper in his ear), but he is what he is.

The Royal Family and putting on the full state visit treatment does seem to stick with him. He also inexplicitly seems to get on well with Starmer; he had several chances to make it difficult for him today and avoided it.

I wouldn't read too much into anything Trump says or does. He can only think 5 minutes ahead . At the State Banquet he was mostly thinking:- - 'what's for pudding ?'
- 'where's the toilet? '
- 'wonder which royal I can bonk? '

Re: President Trump 2.0
Now the orange git is advising Starmer to ' call out the military'. Again, who does he think he is?
Harriet Jones had it right:
BLAKE: I'm getting demands from Washington, ma'am. The President's insisting that he take control of the situation.
HARRIET: You can tell the President, and please use these exact words, he's not my boss, and he's certainly not turning this into a war.
Quite right too. We didn't let Hitler, Stalin or Mussolini tell us what to do. Despite what he apparently thinks, this is our country. Nor should Starmer let him, useless nonentity that Starmer is.
(Not that I think Farage would be any better - he's clueless in a different way.)

Re: President Trump 2.0
Whatever you may think of Trump as a person, from my perspective, he's not wrong.
In this forum, you'll get the likes of Andrew saying that we must abide by the law. So the law needs adjusting to permit the use of military assets to prevent the boats from crossing into our waters.
I've said before that this would create an international incident with France - but that's long overdue in this case. What's happening at taxpayer expense is beyond unacceptable; also, there will be terrorist plants among those landing in the UK.
Then from Anonymouse:
Quote:
BLAKE: I'm getting demands from Washington, ma'am. The President's insisting that he take control of the situation.
HARRIET: You can tell the President, and please use these exact words, he's not my boss, and he's certainly not turning this into a war.
|
That's not the situation here. Trump is not trying to take control. He is simply suggesting that Starmer should use all available means (including the military) to stop the influx of boat migrants into the UK.
