off to retentions from August. Anyone got any tips on how to get a decent offer?

Find out what Sky et al are charging for a package similar to your own and challenge them (retentions - thinking of leaving) to get as close to that as possible. It's a bit luck of the draw who you get and how helpful they feel. You can always ring back and try your luck with someone different. The nuclear option is say you're leaving and stick to it, they will probably ring you back later with their best offer but it's possible they won't ring you or you miss the call in which case it's best to have a plan B in place.

ah very helpful thank you for this. my current package has this:
Additional discount that ends on 31 August 2024
+ Ultimate bundle offer - 18 month saving, ends on 31 August 2024
+ You're receiving a 3 discount. If you change your package you may lose this
discount which will end on 31 August 2024
so does that mean i can start going through retentions after the 31st July? or sooner?

31 July because that is the earliest that you could give notice should their offer be unsatisfactory.

I believe once you get into your final month or later you're in the strongest bargaining position, so yes 31st July or thereafter. Telling them an alternative plan will definitely focus their mind and it shows you mean business. As it happens I'm a couple of weeks after you contract wise and strongly thinking of ditching them after having had cable services for almost 30 years.

aye i'm 25 years in. ill let you know how i get on. tnt sports deal ending 31st July may make things interesting anyway. hopefully a resolution is found by then (but knowing virgin media it'll be last minute before the football season anyway)
thanks for your advice!

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
You'll not get TNT on any offer. I got Mega TV with sky sports and movies in HD with Netflix and second box for £64 in Nov 2022 and they renewed it in March this year for the same price just losing TNT. Gig1 too. So bargain hard but never rude

I think TNT is now £18 as an add on so you could have the lot for £82 if you wanted. That's a really decent price.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
TNT is available on some offers - you just need to get the right person willing to do it for you - or know how. But they may be irrelivent soon.
Call three times and decline each and you'll get three different offers.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
On paper there won’t be any TNT offers the question is who will give you £18 off your bill.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
Overnight changes
Channel Update slates being prepared for channels 587, 588, 589, 590 & 591.
Those channel numbers don't mean a lot in isolation but deduct the number 60 from them and they bear a remarkable resemblance to the TNT Sports channel numbers!!!
Also a couple of promotional rebrands.
For full details of these and other changes see: https://ukcabletvchanges.blogspot.com/
Although, perhaps not full details of the 587-591 channel numbers as there is no speculation on the blog.

Would be funny if they have to rebrand it.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
Give them time, and they’ll rebrand all the channels again by dropping the U&.
I wonder how much Cher cost them.
