What are the rules on severance pay for ministers?
The law says that people holding various eligible paid positions in government and the opposition are entitled to a quarter of their salary in severance pay when they leave the job. This includes all ministers, but not parliamentary private secretaries or trade envoys, who are unpaid.

Who's next on the gravy train

What are the payments worth?
Based on the current figures:

the Prime Minister will receive £18,860 (a quarter of £75,440)
a Cabinet Minister will receive £16,876.25 (a quarter of £67,505)
a Minister of State will receive £7,920 (a quarter of £31,680)
a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State will receive £5,593.75 (a quarter of £22,375)

There's another argument around that she should be let go of as soon as possible so as to stabilise the markets.

Frosty lost all credibility in my eyes when he criticised his own trade deal but doubtless was a muppett prior to that.

⏰We start the morning where we left off last night… with govt in chaos.

No 10 sent statement at 1.33am saying fracking vote *was* a confidence vote after all.

Tory MPs who broke whip will face “disciplinary action”.

		| UPDATE: transport secretary Ann Marie Trevelyan on @SkyNews appears to contradict 1.30am message from No 10.
She doesn’t confirm what disciplinary action will be taken against MPs - if any.

Was it a confidence vote? “No. It was a very important vote.”

I'm not sure the markets would react favourably to another chancellor being appointed after Hunt has presented a credible front to the markets. | The argument to hang onto her is solely a political one. She’s just a human shield to roll out the bad news stories to give the new leader a clean slate.

The question is how far she can drag down the party in the polls between now and then.

It’s times like this you wish a former poster, but still an avid reader, was still around to give us the inside lines from CCHQ.

 | It seems that there's 15%-20% of the electorate who support the Conservative Party like people support football clubs and will vote for it regardless.

On that basis, she can probably not drag the Party down much lower so keep her in place to get the flack for the broken promises upcoming in the October 31 Autumn Budget, reassure the markets and make a new start after that.

I can understand why the poster you elude to is avoiding posting on the the Forum; the lines eminating from CCHQ must be contradictory and bewildering.

The british public on a whole seems to be apathetic to the state of politics, preferring instead to focus on 'here's three new things you never knew you could do on your iphone' , 'Mrs. Miggins five minute kitchen clean that will make it sparkle' & 'healthcare assistant from dumfries transforms kitchen using B&M buys'
