The economic case is lower than UK to the mainland and the railway gauges in the UK and Island of Ireland are different. It sounds like another Boris Island project although I like the audacity of it!

I didn't know that - it's a bit of a killer unless the train to/from NI is a shuttle service or there is a gauge interchange station (change tains)!

Didn't a load/ most of unused WWII ordnance get dumped in the sea between NI and Scotland making such a project completely infeasible, still it's another opportunity for bozo to stick Boris in front of something else beginning with B so it can't be missed, the infantilisation of British politics and press is almost complete

Its going to be grim/raining either side of that tunnel, so can't see the point 
( and I thought NI was already in the UK? Might change in the future i guess thanks to us pressing our own self destruct Brexit button).

It doesn't seem a very useful place to put to be honest. It's obviously where there is the smallest part of the sea but infrastructure wise it seems a long way around.

Not an issue as you just have train terminals on either side and just use these to carry Lorries/cars just like the Euro tunnel.

Variable gauge systems exist that would allow passenger services to run easily from Belfast to Glasgow or anywhere else in the British network. Such systems are in widespread use on the continent for passenger services. Trains don’t even need to stop. Heavy freight is more challenging but the engineering isn’t insurmountable.
Although this will never happen.

Major difference here to the chunnel is that was dug in soft chalk using TBMs* whereas, if my O-Level geography serves, the rocks here are either Basalts or very old, hard, Lewisian. This would necessitate much drilling and blasting. Expensive and slow.
