I would be interested to see if they are still rated U (Universal - suitable for all) or if they have got round it because they are PG?

BBFC in UK.

They don’t have to submit it anywhere to put their own advisory rating on it. This is entirely due to the way Disney classifies material on Disney+, not for DVDs. Having said that, the age rating hasn’t changed. In this case it’s the existence of the content advisory message that pops up after you press play that indicates to the app’s parental controls system that the film shouldn’t be available to a profile that’s been set up for kids.

The "funny" thing is, if they didn't do that, then sooner or later, the Daily mail would have the headline
"Child caught doing racist thing, says he saw it on Disney movie he watched at weekend"

This way, in an ideal world, the parents will be watching with the child and will explain that some things were "acceptable" back then, which aren't now.

If the parents think it’s ok for kids to watch them, just use their login avatar - not a problem.

If they didn’t want kids to see these films at all, they’d not put them on the system. Song of the South isn’t there. They just want to make a point that kids should only see these films if their parents have made an informed decision about it.

If you are using these services instead of spending time with your kids there is something wrong. We used to watch DVD's at weekends and take turns choosing but we'd watch together. It was rare that we would just put kids in front of TV and leave them to it and then we would help them choose and leave just that programme (or CBeebies) on.

I do like having the disclaimer and then showing the movie as it was. Such a better way of handling it than editing the old scenes out or not having the movie at all.
