Maybe because, like me, one of my biggest 'moans and pet hates' is people who have deliberately and consciously committed acts which go against the morals of society, and then brazenly claim their 'human rights' when caught.

Much like the offenders we see every day in local news, who have 50+ previous offences and end up with another 100 hours community service. Those people have long given up any rights.

Once you start by taking away the rights of any section of society, you make it possible/acceptable to take them away from others - be careful what you wish for, as it may be used against you in the future...

Well 1000 metres = 1 km; 1760 yards = 1 mile. Which system makes most sense? Same for other metric/imperial comparisons. Metric is easier.

Being an old fuddy I still prefer miles for distance, but it will change at some point as it's archaic. The only reason we didn't go over to km is that we couldn't afford to change all the road signs !

Unless you’re needing to do calculations, the awkward subdivision of imperial units isn’t really an issue. The issue is whether or not you have a feel for how far something is. When I’m behind the wheel in a moving car, I have a sense of speed I’d instinctively relate in miles per hour. I have a sense of when I’ve driven about a mile. That’s not something anyone’s learned in a classroom for around 50 years now, but as it’s the way our roads are still marked up, we all learn it by experience when we start driving.

Conversely, while you’re taught metric in school, you’re never given any experience of using it at scale. You trot round the playground with a metre wheel, other than that it’s whatever you can measure with a 30cm ruler or calculate on a piece of paper. You only really get the chance to think in metric distances if you do map and compass work, and not even just on the desktop, but actually getting out in the wild. I think in miles in my car, but I think in km when I go out walking because that’s what I learned at the outward bound school.

Given my age, I was schooled in imperial, but soon after beginning work had to adopt to both metric & imperial. No fun carting different spanner combinations around because you never knew what you needed until you got there
Anyway, I'm still mainly imperial - I still measure in feet & inches, drink pints not litres/liters, my car odometer tells me how many miles I've done, I weigh a tad over 15 stone

I've set up with 17 job agencies.

I wish they understood distances, I put 20 miles from my town "Harlow" in Essex.

I've had jobs, in Surrey, Bristol and Glasgow.

I put permanent jobs in Hampshire and offered contracts outside my field in places all around the world.

When I was looking for work one time I was advise not to go to too many agencies as many had the same jobs and likelihood of being pushed to the same wrong job was increased.

I have noticed the same jobs do appear on several sites, but I do write down what jobs I apply for, location, company & sallary.

Utility companies that ring as a 'final check' a few days before coming out to do some work . . asking a few questions:
Confirm name & address - yeah ok
Confirm phone number - erm, it's a landline, you've just rang it and I confirmed name & address
Do we supply any other services? - No, but why the silly question?
How do you pay your bill? - Does it not say on the screen in front of you? - Yes but we have to ask these questions - That's ridiculous
Can you confirm the amount on your last statement? - Is that information also on the screen in front of you? - Yes, but we have to - Go away, bye *click*

Not fussed if they turn up or not now, will probably change supplier.
Getting absolutely fed up with having to go through 20 questions every time I answer the damn phone

I must next time say when I get the "you've been in a accident".

I must say either "what the one where I hit an elephant" or "Do you mean the one I was killed in"
Or better still, "The one with a Circus Dwarf, the elephant and a tub od industrial lub?"
