Re: Coronavirus
Interesting article
Quote:
How huge regional differences in intensive care bed numbers threaten coronavirus postcode lottery
Those living in rural areas, the south west and midlands are most vulnerable, while London is best equipped
Snippet .....We know the NHS as a whole has too little capacity to cope with the coronavirus outbreak. That’s why all hospitals were on Tuesday ordered to send “medically fit” patients home and cancel all non-urgent operations, moves which will impact tens of thousands.
“Covid-19 presents the NHS with arguably the greatest challenge it has faced since its creation”, said its boss Simon Stevens, in a letter to all trust and hospital chief executives.
Despite such announcements, it’s a mistake to think of the NHS as a single service. It is anything but. Health care in the UK is run independently in each of the four nations. Even in England, the service Mr Stevens’ presides over, the NHS is not really one entity run and controlled from the centre. In reality it's a federation of sometimes competing services.
The analysis below showing huge regional variation in the NHS’s ability to respond to the Covid-19 outbreak is partly explained by this and partly by the nature of the virus itself.

Re: Coronavirus
Aldi stores are normally open until 10pm Monday to Saturday. From Friday, this will be cut back until 8pm until further notice.
Sunday opening hours remain the same at 10am to 4pm, or 10am to 6pm in Scotland.

Re: Coronavirus
Up at the local today for a couple of pints and one of the regulars was getting 1/2 a dozen eggs from the kitchen staff. I guess trade supplies are getting through OK.
If this keeps up the black marketeers will have a field day.

Re: Coronavirus
Ours has gone to a Saturday service all week. BBC News says trains will be running a Sunday service.
London Underground ask people not to use them to allow key workers to get to work. 40 stations have been closed.
People have turned to using kitchen towel instead of toilet paper; this blocks up the sewage pipes, so It's best to put it into a bin. Reminds me of going to Turkey!

Re: Coronavirus
We just had a order delivered from one of the supermarkets and 17 items were out of stock or were not able to be substituted.

Re: Coronavirus
@Hugh. Being in the local at least 2m away from the nearest punter is much less risky than going to the supermarket with those parents of snotty nosed children that are virus factories.

It’s not an either/or situation- the more people mix, the higher the transmission rate...
As HMaj said
