This is equivalent of 4 TiVo boxes so needs a better signal.

I don't know if there was a spare slot high up in the box or not - technician just said he had moved me up so I would get the quality of signal I needed.

I suppose it makes sense for distance to also be a factor, just seemed strange that the higher up you are the better signal you get.

Maybe this is because the top 1 takes what it needs then the 2nd etc, whilst those at the bottom get what's left?

Have to say on a Saturday particularly I am usually recording 5 or 6 HD progs on each box at any one time - so presumably needing a high quality signal?

Not true. All boxes need the same signal level no matter how many tuners they have. However, if you have more boxes you may need a higher signal level into the house.

Stronger, but not necessarily better. The signal level can be too high. You need to be on the correct tap for your cable length.

You need the same signal no matter what you are watching/recording. TiVo records on all tuners all the time anyway (except in power-saving mode) - it just goes into the live TV buffers if you aren't making permanent recordings.

Thanks for the explanation - sounds like it's all down to the number of boxes (any type) and the distance from the street box - so absolutely no reason I wasn't on the "correct tap" from day 1

It will work with VIVID 50 (50mbps down), which is VM's smallest package.

They may very well recommend however it only uses 15.26 the point I was making is a 50mb connection is more than enough for 4K streaming.

Initially, VM insisted on VIVID 100 (100mbps). Then they decided to hand out free V6s to replace old boxes and, strangely, the broadband requirement dropped to VIVID 50.

It may not be if others in your house are using mobile phones, tablets, etc at the same time.

It still leaves you with nearly 35mb I'm pretty sure that'll cover mobile phones and tablets.
