Sky to offer full TV service over broadband in 2018

This could prove interesting, but is there an appetite for the full Sky service over broadband (at presumably the full Sky price, too)?

It is the future, nialli, and although I (possibly unfairly) criticised Sky a while ago for not embracing on demand viewing until relatively recently, this is clearly a brave move in the right direction.

As someone who is not able to have a dish due to a line of trees this would indeed give me more choice of supplier in the future. It is also of note that they are saying about rewarding loyal customers.

This will be of interest to people who for reasons of location (like you) or because they live in listed buildings, in a conservation area or have lease restrictions are not permitted a satellite dish on the outside of their home.

Well we have been Virgin customers since the days of the ark and they have given us decent discounts on a regular basis so l think they like Sky are already listening.

+1. A phone call to Retentions is normally good value. It would be good though if they introduced something like a "continuous service" discount, say 5% for every five years as a loyal customer?

Yes that would certainly be a good idea.

I agree there's certainly appetite for the service but I highly doubt at the current prices.

In my opinion bundles and channels will need to be restructured to make them more attractive.

As I've said before I expect Sky to axe any pay channels it feels are under performing.

Re: Sky to offer full TV service over broadband in 2018

I'm just thinking about the huge increased in data consumed for those people that do opt for this. Granted 'streaming services' aren't new but this a significant step change!

Expect to see this launch as only compatible with Sky broadband initially ;-)

I'd expect it to be available for fibre only customers , I'd also expect it to differ from BT'S TV.

BT's TV requires your broadband to watch or record , I'd expect in 2018 Sky to have nailed down cloud rights thus making a copy of shows in the cloud rather than recording local and using all your broadband connection.

Relations are irrelevant Openreach is regulated and offers each ISP the same range of products at regulated prices.

From my daughters experience BT have problems delivering the fibre service she pays for 76MB as she is to far from the exchange. The knock on effect is buffering Now TV. BT needs to spend Billions updating everything.
She hopes to have VM by the end of the year as they are extending in this area.
