Just installed Hub 3.0 - Getting very low (O<5m) speeds?

Yo,

So I just installed the Hub 3.0, activated the service ahead of that, but now my speeds have dropped drastically. I was expecting my 100m service to hit near 150m but am getting around 5mbs at most. It was working fine before the 'upgrade'. I phoned VM and they 'did things at their end' but it hasn't worked, they then said there is a fault in the area and it will be slow in peak times but since it was working fine prior to this and since I can't find an error on the website I am not convinced.

Any ideas?

Hi

Login to the hub and see how many download channels you see if you see about 3 then give the hub a reboot and recheck channels and redo speed test

Might have failed to lock on.

Poor SNR on D/S channel hub now having trouble locking on because of this

snr too low, you have a signal fault regardless of what hub you use, are your fittings tight? can you remove any attenuators

So I attempted to reattach the cord and found this inbetween the hub and the cable:

I also tried to tighten the connections a bit although that didn't feel like it had much to give however now on Speedtest I think 80mbs but the web itself is still going very slow

Re: Just installed Hub 3.0 - Getting very low (O<5m) speeds?

Those power levels are fine and if you are getting 80mbits on your 100mbit connection then I wouldn't be worried too much just yet, you can put it down to Saturday evening traffic. I hate to ask a stupid question but why were you expecting to get 150mbits out of your 100mbit connection?

It should be 150mb. I got the Hub 3.0 as part of the speed upgrade.

Re: Just installed Hub 3.0 - Getting very low (O<5m) speeds?

upstream is absolutely fine but you still might have some problems with the downstream. The powers levels are spot on but if I remember correctly your snr should be 33+ and those 24's defo look too low. That was a few years ago though and it might have changed with all the upgrades they are doing and the new kit/technology going in.

Edit: interestingly, there is a direct correlation between the channel frequency and the snr (the lowest frequency has the lowest snr and it goes up incrementally and the highest frequency has the highest snr). I don't know how it all works so it might be a coincidence that due to the channels you are on (my bonding group is in the 130's) that you don't need a high snr. I have just had a look at mine and the majority of my channels are above 300mhz which is why the snr's are 36 and 37.

am I right about the correlation between low frequency and low snr or should they be higher?

That's my working theory at the moment. Finally got VM to send someone around because I suspect the problem might be with the wiring elsewhere. I just can't see where anymore force can be applied to connect things up.

I have removed that little component I linked to above. Maybe I should try reattaching it?

leave it off but show the engineer when he/she comes round. Having said that I hope he/she doesn't just drive off after seeing you have removed a fault. jb66 mentions loose fittings elsewhere so have the engineer check your whole connection.
