Pretty much the same tactics they used when I called to cancel my services over 3 years ago.

a few mins later i got a call from Virgin asking me to rate the service. The person was polite enough and did what i asked but i can't believe how willing they were to just let me go. I honestly felt like my custom did not matter after that call.

As above this mirrors my experience. Looks like nothing has changed.
The experience with Virgin Media and SKY has been night and day. Everytime I've called SKY to cancel a service they've done everything they can to keep me. Reduced prices, free this, free that etc... Interestingly SKY have always told me on the phone I'm a valued customer and what can they do to keep me as a subscriber. No real negative chat about rival providers just a real feeling they don't want me to go. I've always recontracted on the terms I want. My deal has either matched or bettered the one i was on the year before. I pay less now for my SKY package than I did in 2013. Might not be a sold business model long term from SKY but hey I don't give a rats. Rather they're losing money than me. All I know is I'm getting the best deal possible that can't be bettered elsewhere.

I am sorry you hear you had a bad experience, but this is not what I have experienced. In 2012 I was paying just over Ł100 including line rental today for exactly the same package I am paying Ł92, I phone up every year when my contract runs out.

I have had a couple of discounts in the past and feel i am quite good as knowing the right things to say to trigger these discounts. Not this time looks like VM would rather get new customers at the expense of keeping the ones they have. Stupid idea in my book

Looks like the new owners of VM have a "like it or lump it" attitude towards their customers.
I have made no secret of my dislike of Sky, but Chads post has cast new light on an obviously changed situation.

I've not missed vm or sky t#bf i'm back with BT now as some know i was stung by a lower price company SSE but anyway back on topic lol i find that bt tv offering alongide my us login gives me all the tv i need and more.
My experience on leaving vm was very negative they tried to threaten me by saying 2no other provider has fibre optic in my area and leaving mid contract will result in my credit report being damaged" this was ofcourse a huge lie i knew i'd have to pay a penalty but i got out of it as it was the time isps were getting court orders to block certain sites, i argued that they wasn't providing a unlimted service as i had originally signed up for. They argued but surprisingly ofcom found in my favour and VM had to settle with me just paying for my final month, i was in two minds to tell them where to go but i paid it and they still tried to say i owed them money which i don't.
Maybe this will help clear up why i have a bee in my bonnet regarding vm i think they are a vile company and deserve to fail, however i don't want them to fail as that would mean job losses.

i emailed the CEO and a member of his team called me. He was incredibly helpful. Looked at my account and told me what offers he could get for me. Told me how valued i was as a customer. Looked into loyalty discounts due to how long ive been with them. Pretty much reviewed everything for me to make sure i was getting the maximum from my package.
totally different attitude from retentions! it was like night and day!

l phoned retentions and they were polite and listened to me and then came back to me with a new deal which was very reasonable but obviously not everybody has the same experience it seems.

Retentions have always been great to me. Always get a deal!

AIUI, that website can be amended by anybody in a similar way to Wikipedia.
Whilst the info may be correct and have been provided in good faith, there has been a lot of rubbish put on it over the years!

I have been waiting for a week for them to come back to me from the CEO office. They e-mailed to say they had my original e-mail and would be intouch to discuss, nowt. Time is ticking VM. My services are cut next Friday and if they fail to get to me before then i will be taking my business elsewhere. I can hold a grudge and both Sky and Vodafone are falling over themselves to get my broadband business

TVChannelLists ain't the most reliable source in existence because it is too similar to Wikipedia as anyone can edit the articles. I'd wait until the specified day and check the EPG.
