Hate crime murder?

It goes without saying that this appears to be another appalling unprovoked killing but I'm not sure I like the BBC's choice of headline:

The facts are not yet known and it may well turn out to be the case that the guy's nationality had nothing at all to do with the attack. As it is, headlines like this will raise concerns unnecessarily IMHO and could even lead to a backlash of some sort.

If I'm in a shop, get annoyed by some rowdy yobs and tell them to shut up then one of them calls me a fat old git, punches me and kills me is that a hate crime too or is it only if I happen to be of another nationality, colour or whatever?

If someone is singled out for no other reason than their race, colour etc. then it seems to me 'hate crime' might be appropriate terminology but where the issue of nationality, colour etc. is incidental I don't see why it would be any worse a crime and we don't yet know the answer to that.

If this crime was committed by "white British" it will be a hate crime. If it was committed by black/Asian/Chinese/ or any other "British community then it will not be a hate crime.

But no matter who the offender, attacking someone due to colour, creed, religion, sexuality, gender, is a hate crime!!

Plenty of white people who, having committed acts that could be considered terrorism, have been called mentally ill. Some people still use that to describe Anders Breivik after all.

The thing with these is that sometimes it's one and sometimes the other. We've convicted people on terrorism and other times it's mental illness.

The BBC news site says the motives for the attack are unclear, so it wasn't committed by white British people obviously.

It recently seems to be blamed on mental illness if they seem to be muslim

As far as the media seems to be concerned only white people can be racist and if it's white on colour it's racist motivated, if it's colour on white it's anything but racist would be a joke if it wasn't so damaging. Racism doesn't have one colour it exists in all colours, cultures and religion the simplistic level it's used in the UK has created a situation in the UK where many have slid more to the racist end as they get called it so easily so often might as well be.

This story is from my town, I live 2 miles from The Stow, it's my aunt local shopping area.

I heard that he and other guy had ago at the kids first.

But that's no excuse for what they did.

They need locking up for a very long time.

Unfortunately do to government cutbacks, teenagers have nothing to do but hang around local shops as it has light and food.
