I was just about to say that as wait until November, you might as well hang on for the sales on Boxing Day! What made you change your mind?

My Samsung is only 6 months old, how long would you say a TV's usable life is?

Our 100Hz Philips matchline was still going strong although I've now updated with a Sony Bravia LED. That's over 15 years.

That's more like it

They say that Sony & Panasonic are the best sets these days, with most of the others mainly being inferior.

These companies simply cheaply buy up the name of old companies that had a good reputation in the past and stick their name on their cheap rubbish.

Ironically, a lot of quality manufacturers went bust because of these cheap foreign imports.

In another thread I asked if such a thing as a TiVo box actually existed, as I imagined that around the world companies would simply licence the software and stick it on any old PVR box.

[QUOTE=RichardCoulter;35853888]

They say that Sony & Panasonic are the best sets these days, with most of the others mainly being inferior.

Its difficult to say which major manufacturers are the best these days.
The latest 4K HDR UHD TV's have all different plus and minus points. I have to agree with you and say Sony and Panasonic have made a comeback (after years of average sets) with the latest 4k UHD tv's.
Lg 4K UHD's and LG 4k UHD oled's are quality TV's along with the Samsung UHD's.
As I have said they all have there different specs and software and some are better than others at different aspects of the TV picture.
It's all down to you're personal preferences.

Didn't know this. Would love to know who bought who?

Ironically, a lot of quality manufacturers went bust because of these cheap foreign imports.

As above

Modern TVs should last more or less forever. There's nothing in them that wears out.

People upgrade because they want new features or bigger and better screens, not because the TV is worn out. Plus TVs are relatively cheap nowadays. A CRT used to be a major investment but now TVs are treated as disposable.

I was out shopping for some other things, popped in to the shop, and the manager discounted the set I wanted to a very reasonable price, so I bought it.

Great affordable 4K TV. Slight issues with the android operating system which can be temperamental but picture quality is excellent.

Since the topic is not based on fact based evidence, it was something fact based to discuss...

Right I was confused because when I mentioned something that was not fact based in coming soon to virgin media it was removed but the v6 was to do with virgin media

I actually considered LG, but their customer service was abysmal. I thought that if they were like that before I bought something, what would they be like afterwards.

Yes, I worked out that a £1,000 TV is cheaper in real terms than the first colour TV's in 1967.

The new TiVo will be 4K capable, so it's only natural that people will now consider the purchase of a 4K TV.

If they already have one, they will now consider upgrading.

A 4K TV is essential to appreciate a 4K box.

To be honest, I used to think that VM had a cheek when they started charging for their boxes, but when you think about it, they only supplied the STB for free.

We then had to go and buy a video recorder or DVD recorder, which we then had to pay to have repaired if need be.

However, i'm not willing to pay too much for a new box and the extra monthly fee on top of the TiVo fee is a no no.

Correction: Panasonic have left people in the lurch, with many unable to receive ITV HD since the end of last year.

I thought it was the actual TV that had to have HDR?

If the new box is HDR capable, can it work with a non HDR TV?
