I have just had a look at the bottom of my shub and it clearly says shub2 (VMDG485) so you should be able to see which one yours is easily enough.

Based on jb's comment I wouldn't expect a tech visit tomorrow and instead expect Yodel to deliver the new shub which you can install yourself. I can't rember the last time Yodel brought me anything but hopefully they'll send you an email/text with a one hour time slot in the morning so you aren't stuck in all day.

The shub is easy enough to install. The important thing to remember is to use the new power adapter and cable that comes with the new and not leave the existing one in place. Connect the cables and turn it on and then ring the activation hotline, the phone number of which will be in the shub's box. It is an easy to use automated service which should get your shub up and running within 30 mins. You'll know when it has worked (if you aren't sat there watching for the reboot) because in its deactivated state it will have the original firmware (e.g. something like r11) and will only lock on to 1 downstream channel. When it has been activated and reboots to get the latest firmware and config file it will lock on to all 8 downstream channels and firmware will be r31. This is for shub2 mind you. If you do get a shub3 it will lock on to the maximum number of channels in your bonding group (more than 8) and I don't know what the lastest firmware revision is for shub3.

Thanks for that. That's what happened last time when I swapped from SHub1 to SHub2.

It's no big deal but Virgin do build it up that an engineer will visit, asking for someone over 18 to be present and it will be something of an anti-climax if Yodel do turn up and it turns out to be a DIY job.

By way of an update, a great guy called Mike, a real engineer, turned up at 11.44am. He swapped the old modem for the SuperHub3, set it up and even put it in modem mode for me. He said he was surprised that he had been called out to do this as usually the modems are sent out via Yodel.

Ironically there was another Virgin Media van just up the road updating someone else's superhub.

After everything was working,he left about 12.04 pm to do some external work in the Virgin Cable box up the road leaving a very happy customer.

Modem upgraded to this the same time as maintenance work was done.
Modem mode certainly has an issue with draytek routers and it wouldn't connect in modem mode.
Solution in the end was to disable modem mode and then re-enable it and only then would it connect to the draytek router.
Funny thing in modem mode it would connect to my laptop albeit slowly.
So I fished out my spare 2920 draytek in case the 2960 packed up and that behaved in the same manner unable to get an ip address.

It is supposed to allow the laptop to directly connect to the internet, that is the point of "modem" mode.

When connecting to a router you don't want to use double nat hence you use modem mode which should connect perfectly as the shrub should only see a single device asking for a dhcp lease.
Double nat can cause issues and isn't a desirable feature.

So as you have chose to reiterate what I have already said I am assuming you are actually correcting a mistake I made in reading your post and you are saying that the laptop connected to the internet when the shub was in modem mode even though you said the draytek wouldn't work? That must be right because single devices requesting dhcp leases and double nating are mutually exclusive because in order for the laptop to get a wan ip either the shub has got to be in modem which means the only device doing any nat is the draytek if it was working and if it was then it is the draytek which would have the wan ip and the laptop would have a local ip provided by the draytek

I think it's one of the provisioning oddities with modem mode vs router mode, as the VM network sees a different MAC address you need to reboot (or possibly just release the lease) to make everything work again.

Probably a legacy of the old old old system of only allowing one MAC address to connect to their network, so you had to clone the registered address if you changed router. This was back before they started pushing combined modem/routers.
