Is 152Mb still available to existing customers?

Virgin have finally fixed the severe congestion in my area, and things are good but not perfect. I took the 200Mb upgrade but I rarely get near that, usually around 160Mb. My contract will be up soon so I'm thinking about negotiating something new. Will they let existing customers downgrade to the old 152Mb tier, or are my choices only 50, 100, or 200?

They will not. Doesn't exist as a product anymore and would cost the same as 200 anyway.

I'm on 152Mb, but I get the following, which I make 169Mb?

Primary Downstream Service Flow
Max Traffic Rate 168960000 bps

Re: Is 152Mb still available to existing customers?

They cap all services 10% or more higher to ensure people can actually get the 152Mb or whatever download speed.

Broadband services in the UK are sold based on actual download speed after some overheads, which is why even though BT FTTC is capped at 80Mb it's sold as 76.

If I remember correctly, Ofcom or the ASA said a certain percentage of customers should be able to get the headline speed. BT responded by changing their advertising from 'up to 80' to 'up to 72' and Virgin responded by speeding up everyone's connections slightly.

Re: Is 152Mb still available to existing customers?

it was something stupid like only 10% of customers needs to be able to get max speed 10% of the time.

10% of customers need to hit that download speed at peak times I believe.

May be changing at some point soon though, seems to be a drive with the politicians. Will probably end up at something ridiculous causing headline speeds to be dropped hugely, politicians to then panic about their sales pitches on broadband failing, and another change.
