Do I need a Superhub 3 after upgrade?
Last night I was upgraded from 152mb to 200mb early which should have been due in September.
I am only getting an average of 95mb on my new laptop via my ethernet cable. I have a Superhub 2 and so I'm wondering if I need to change it to a Superhub 3.
I've read there have been lots of problems with the Superhub 3 so would it be more trouble than it's worth or do I have to be on the hub 3 to get maximum benefit from my upgrade?

Re: Do I need a Superhub 3 after upgrade?
No, you don't need to change it to the Superhub 3 to get 200Mb and you're right in what you have been reading (albeit better than it was an does depending on how much you want to do with your router).
If I was to guess, I'm assuming you were upgraded when renewing your contract? Due to them doing this and your current CMTS/cards not being able to support these speeds for everyone it's having a reverse effect. It happened in my area, then when we were moved onto a newer Arris/Cisco cBR-8 I get a solid 200Mbit (well more like 210) at all times I've cared to check.

Re: Do I need a Superhub 3 after upgrade?
It was when I phoned to cancel Sky Sports I was asked if there is anything else so I took the opportunity to mention the amount of times my upgrade date had changed and that it now said September. The CS lady had a look at it and came back to say she could push the upgrade through but didnt say anything about a new contract.
Ive just got off the phone to a helpful lady who confirmed that I don't need a new Superhub and I'm better off keeping the Superhub 2. Even she said she wouldn't have one! What she did say was that it takes 24 hours for the upgrade to push through as they don't want to fry my Superhub by sending it all in one go.
Many thanks for your reply Gobble, much appreciated.

that is the kind of thing that does my head and makes you want to ever ring them for anything because you can't believe anything they say.

shub2 is good for 400mbits dude. Can we have the make and model of your laptop. Another forum user made a very similar post around xmas time (band new laptop) and luckily I looked up the laptop and it turns out the nic was only good for 100mbits.

Re: Do I need a Superhub 3 after upgrade?
As said above, the taking 24 hours is total crap. If you connect to your router (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.100). Without logging into the admin menu, you should see a 'show status' or 'router status'... or something to that degree (it's been a while). If you click on that, then on the Operational Config option, you will see what your modem is provisioned to get. If it is 200, the number will start 210 or 220 now as mine changed recently.
The second they change that number, you'll get that speed if your CMTS load can handle it.
It'd be worth asking one of Forum Team on the VM forums to check your area for any utilisation as you might be able to get some money back if there are degradations so long as it fits in there criteria so to speak.

I did wonder this myself, but I presume being on 152, he's had over 95 Mbit before?

He'd only be affected by high utilisation during peak times though. He'd still get close to 200Mb outside peak time.
With a figure like 95Mb it's much more likely that his laptop network card or ethernet cable is bottlenecking the speed to under 100Mb.

It's a HP 15-ac123na notebook
I was amused when she said it would take 24 hours for the upgrade to be complete. I will ring VM back this afternoon. My speeds were over 100mb on ethernet when I was on 152mb and the speedtest on my LG smart tv was on average 110mb on wifi but is now down to an average of 50mb now that I'm supposed to be on 200mb.

Re: Do I need a Superhub 3 after upgrade?
I'd check your config like I mentioned earlier, then do speedtests at several times of the day. First thing in the morning before you go to work you should be getting your full speeds, then check peak times and weekends and compare.

or before wasting time doing all that you could perform the simple step for which he has just provided the information for

sorry dude, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. If the notebook is your primary internet accessing device (i.e. you don't have a pc you use a lot) I would suggest ringing VM and getting yourself downgraded to 100mbits. Or if you really want the speed going forward then you could take a look at getting one of these but I would seriously consider what you are going to use 200mbits for (beefy file downloads) and what the hard drive can handle.
