Problem with SH 2AC

hi i am having constant disconnections from my SH during peak times. it disconnects roughly 3-4 times a week varied on the days. ive been told to put the SH in modem mode to asee if it improves connection however doing so it shuts down the internet completely without restoring and wont connect to my own router. currently im having internet coming through both hub and my own router is there any way or fix i can do to get the SH in modem mode and still have internet or this just a common fault that can engineer needs to fix or need a complete new router. this is only happened since ive had this hub and i never had a problem with my last virgin modem which is alot weaker and one thats before the superhubs came out.

http://grammar.yourdictionary.com/pu...ules-help.html

Things need to be done in a certain order and whilst there are short cuts and simpler ways of things we are going to do it the long way to ensure it is done properly and ensure everything is communicating.

1) Firstly the internet is coming through the shub and your router. Your router is a router and not a modem so if all clients connected to both devices are connected to the internet then you are double natting. The shub is a router which creates one network and by connecting a second router to the shub you have created two networks. I won't dwell on this because hopefully you won't be doing it for much longer
2) Do a pinhole reset on the shub and then go into the gui and change it to modem mode
3) Make sure that the patch cable connecting your router to the shub is connected to port 1 on the shub and wan port on the router. I mention this because I am concerned that with you having multiple devices connected to the shub that your router isn't necessarily connecting to port 1 which it needs to be when using modem mode and will be why nothing is working when you have previously enable modem mode. The connection from the shub also needs to go into the wan port on the router (should be blue) in order for the router to receive an ip address.
4) Disconnect the shub from the mains, disconnect the router and turn off your pc.
5) One at a time, power on the shub and let it boot up, then the router and then your pc. The shub will establish it's connection with VM, the router will receive an external ip address from VM and the pc will have a local address from the router.

You will know if it has all worked because in router mode the shub has an address of http://192.168.0.1 which you will need to use to access the gui and change it into modem mode. Once rebooted you will only be able to access the gui through http://192.168.100.1 (for testing purposes post-reboot, you don't need to change any settings). If you log into your router post-reboot you should be able to see the proper VM wan ip address in the admin page, mine is something like 82.215.xxx.xxx. Finally, your pc will have a local address within a range you have specified on your router and will more than likely be something like 192.168.0.2.

If everything has worked ok:

a) your router will have an external ip address (vs the local one from the shub you would have seen before)
b) your pc will have internet access
c) any other devices connected to ports 2-4 on the shub will no longer have network access as those ports are now disabled. The shub is now a modem and all network access is provided by your router and all the cabling/wired devices need to be moved to the lan ports on the router. If 4 ports aren't enough then the solution is to connect a switch to the router and not use both the shub and router as switches unless you know how to set them up properly.

Just to cover all bases before you come back and say it hasn't worked, by putting the shub into modem mode you will also be disabling the wifi on the shub. You need to check all the settings on your router and ensure the wireless ssid is set, passwords etc. Any laptops/phones/tablets which were previously using the shubs wifi will no longer work and you will need to tell each device to now use your router by selecting the ssid and inputting the correct password (basically connecting to a new wifi connection like you would if you went round to your friends house).

I think I have covered anything. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Problem with SH 2AC

fix your router problem first dude and then we'll talk about wireless. I think you have got things in a right pickle at the moment and we need to get it all back in some sort of order.

Re: Problem with SH 2AC

As the General's post is a bit long it might be best to try something simple. I suggest putting the SHub in modem mode and connecting a PC/Laptop or or whatever you have and trying a speed test.

It is IMPORTANT that the Sub is switched off after you set it to a different mode or you will get all sorts of trouble. Also power off the device you connect.

Also power up the hub FIRST and let it stabilise with a flashing blue light. Then start the PC / device.

and what is that going to achieve? The op's problem is a networking problem and not a wan connection fault.

That appears to be what your telling him to do anyway. I was just trying to simplify things and prove that at least a very basic system works. If it does then we get onto the more complicated things.

As others have said in this thread, the main thing is - exactly as you've stated - you want to put your hub into modem mode while using your router. It's not a fault you're seeing with this, it just has to be done in a very specific order.

1) Switch on Modem mode
2) Wait for the hub to reboot and lock on
3) Switch Hub AND router off completely
4) Switch ONLY the hub back on. Wait for it to be ready.
5) Switch router back on. Wait.

I'd explain the reasons why you have to do it this way, but I think Mr Maximus has already gone through it. Patience is key.
