If it's a two-year deal as some have suggested, it would expire on 9 June this year so could be a #comingsoon channel. Others may be able to add more.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
An interesting, if crushingly disappointing, puff piece in the Telegraph. I've just written about it on the VMHD blog and found little I can be optimistic about. I've concluded
Quote:

It’s a pretty sorry state of affairs. Although the Telegraph can run some puff about how efficient Liberty Global is with it’s economies behind the scenes it can’t really hide the reality of a TV offering that has lacked the necessary vision, attention and investment for far too long, a typical example of a media company that’s been run by accountants who have turned a blind eye to the opportunities of today’s technology and compelling content.
|
I'm not normally one of those who sees the worse in everything Virgin does, but this felt to me like a kick in the teeth for those who have loyally stuck with the company through a succession of unjustifiable price hikes whilst being stuck with dated technology and vague promises of a brighter future. At a price, of course.

Not sure why it starts talking about Horizon, surely it's not a good idea to start mentioning a post-Tivo system as that may discourage take-up of the new Tivo which will probably be around for at least three years, possibly double that.

I can't see someone so senior publicly talking like this without a plan already being in place though Den.
Seems to me (to continue your analogy) VM already have a few fingers in a few pies behind the scenes.
Watch this space.....

Although I've got some sympathy for your comments, I don't think think it's entirely to say that VM is a "typical example of a media company that’s been run by accountants who have turned a blind eye to the opportunities of today’s technology and compelling content." It's run by Tom Mockridge who is not an accountant but started off as a newspaper reporter and the previous regime was forward-thinking when it invested in Tivo.
That being said, I can't explain why VM has not been so content conscious over the last couple of years particularly with regard to FTA channels like Spike. Perhaps because it's been focused on the VM Ireland takeover and the integration into LGI? Whilst the cat's away, the mice (Sky and BT) will play.
I posted earlier in the year about VM's hints that content was going to be addressed and it's good to see this being fleshed out a little more. Maybe David Bouchier needs to go out for a few beers with Vince and Old Boy?

Yes, Series Link+ allows you to specify 'Recordings and streaming videos' so that My Shows will get the program from broadcast, Netflix, Catchup or On Demand.
You can also specify Channel = All so that the program can be recorded from any channel.

It would be good if media boy can check this with his sources because it's not good news. I think they mean horizon software on a new TiVo box. Also it would be good to know about the software dates as he said next week but sweet F O from virgin

In regards to software updates it would be good if Spiderplant would be able to update us, if he is able to as he is in the mix of it.

Unless the plan is to migrate the box soon after to Horizon. Still a hard sell though, made worse if stories start appearing in the press about TiVo's acquisition and its new owners shutting down development.

Well defo but I hope the new software updates don't put further pressure on this box. I worked out I got this box in 2010 meaning by the time we get new TiVo boxes mines be 7 years old

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Being first out with a new box doesn't necessarily mean you'll have the overall best offering , it allows the competition time to see what's being done and what features people like.

At the moment there is nothing to report. Definitely no updates this week.
