Only joking
Seeing as nobody else appears to have done it, English types wave your flag with pride today

Re: Happy St Racist's Day
But not any other day unless you want to be branded "racist" by some loony or other.

Re: Happy St Racist's Day
Only if it's used to attack other countries/races which does happen but thankfully not often.
Celebrating your national flag as I expect the Saesneg to do today is to be encouraged.

Re: Happy St Racist's Day
Has anyone noticed much about it this year? I remember the last few years there was an effort to give the day more prominence but it seems to have fizzled out. Usually one the tabloids tries to stoke up excitement but that doesn't appear this year either. It doesn't help though that I live around London. I wondered if anywhere else had more effort put into the day?

Re: Happy St Racist's Day
I think there is more interest in Shakespeare this year..There seems to have been a big push to make the day about the bard rather than St George.

Which would be better as a national day. Part of the problem is there is no flagpole event or occasional we're marking and I think England, Britain even, needs proper events to mark so we can pretend it's about that rather than us. Having a party 'cos we're English' just doesn't seem a very English thing to do.

It's been really bizarre for me.
The room where I studied Latin, attended assemblies and sat some GCSE exams has been refurbished by a charity and become a tourist attraction. I'm seeing the shops I visited to buy random things as a kid in the news.
Never did appreciate Stratford properly as I was young and lived there. George Bernard Shaw comes to mind.

Re: Happy St Racist's Day
to be totally honest with everyone, l sometimes feel ashamed to be ENGLISH. In the UK on St Georges Day. which I didn't even know about.
My neighbour had the England Flag, and l said 'oh ****' and we don't celebrate it, could it be that WE may offend people by celebrating it, or Not.
St Georges Day should be a bank holiday. We should all be proud to be English. But we don't celebrate it.
We should do what the Irish do. On St Patricks day, they go totally mad, a celebrate like mad.
But St Georges day - a damp Squid.
What the hell is wrong with this country. England is great country, with great people. But what we are scared of to celebrate it.
I know that one house where l live, had an England flag, but was told to take it down as it offended neighbours.
And this is not me causing trouble, we should be proud of our country.

We became a joke.
We became insignificant.
We became a laughing stock and a pushover.

In your opinion to be encouraged, not in mine or the vast majority of us, we're just not that interested or insecure to be bothered with nationalistic jingoism

Are they celebrating st Patricks day or using it as an excuse to get bladdered. I've heard stories about being asked to take flags down and most of them turn out to be bs

Re: Happy St Racist's Day

Anger as council officials say UK city is ‘too multicultural’ to celebrate St George’s Day
According to the Daily Star Sunday, Kalphna Woolf, founder of 91 Ways to Build a Global City, which aims to unite Bristol's multicultural communities, said people can be frightened of the white and red St George's flag.
look out its a highly dangerous piece of cloth duck and cover .
