But I personally think it's likely that as internet connected devices are much more widely available then they were 4 years ago, that the iPlayer / BBC Sport apps will be where the content will be found as they can access the online streams that the BBC have said they will do

I think you're right.
With regard to the statement "Alongside its coverage on TV and radio and an expanded digital offering through its interactive red button service, each individual sport will be streamed online." I wonder how extensive the enhanced red button service will be and how this fits with the iPlayer?

Again, the fly in the ointment about this situation is the loss of the ability to record the live content. OK, the London Olympics being our "home" games deserved the treatment it got, & I wouldn't expect Rio to get the same treatment, but I hope we will see several additional streams for Euro 2016, Rio, Wimledon & Glastonbury over the summer.

You won't need to record it if it's on the BBC I-Player. Presumably they will retain the recordings for a few months at least, maybe a year.

Why would the BBC do anything special, they're getting rid of it like all sports. They reckon sports isn't the future, but then again so is the future of the BBC....

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
It's not that the BBC don't want to do Sport, it's that the costs involved in buying commercial Sports rights are going up to a point where the BBC can't compete.

And also that their overall budget has been cut severely does not help either..

But if the support that they need slows down the TiVo, I think that they should wait until the new TiVo comes out or give us the ability to decide how many we want to download.

I thought so, but the TiVo manuals seem to suggest that this is not the case.
I would like to be able to record some things out of XL, downgrade and then view them later.

AFAIK, the old BBC3 capacity will be used, at least in the short term, for a red button service.

It is only the Sky channels that have the recording restriction on them
Why can't I play back some recordings?

Totally agree - frozen licence fee but content costs especially sport growing hugely all the time.

Agreed but maybe not that long; the IOC will want to sell its Rio de Janeiro Olympics highlights DVDs at Christmas.

I'd be careful making Amazon Prime Video related predictions. What happens is usually the opposite of what is predicted.

We have not seen anything further on Amazon instant video as of yet, wuaki has been mentioned but we think this one is a wind up as it would collide with VMs own ppv movie service.

Yes predictions are one thing as we know but actual reality is another.
