Premier Sports back with a bang?
Premier Sports has always struck me as a bit of a tinpot channel. Very niche sports rights.
I'm not sure what's happened in the past week but they've swooped in and picked up decent events. I wonder if they've got a new investor?
They've picked up the following international friendlies and secured the UK rights to show Manny Pacquaio Vs. Bradley III. Incredible to think they've potentially outbid Boxnation and SKY for the rights.
Czech Republic vs. Scotland
Rep. of Ireland v Switzerland
Rep. of Ireland v Slovakia
Rep. of Ireland v Netherlands
Italy vs. Scotland
France vs. Scotland
Sweden vs. Wales

Setanta Sports which content shares with Premier Sports is now owned by Eir (the Irish incumbent telecoms provider) so this could explain the new rights acquisitions.

Back on this now the NRL season has started. It's pretty much a no brainer if you're a rugby league fan

Re: Premier Sports back with a bang?
I watched several games a few years back on PS. I didn't rate it then. Now they expect you to pay for it.
Don't think so. It should be free to VM. I wouldn't pay for it.

Well its a choice and option. If you don't want it don't buy it;
Why should it be free exactly??

Wasn't it given free some years ago as a compliment? Rugby is in my mind for the time it was free and Virgin chose to extend the compliment.

With respect, I think you've missed, Chad's, the OP's point. He seems to agree with your perceptions of the channel a few years ago "Premier Sports has always struck me as a bit of a tinpot channel. Very niche sports rights."
However, his point is that it has now changed " I'm not sure what's happened in the past week but they've swooped in and picked up decent events."
So, describing how Premier Sports was before is irrelevant as Chad's post is all about how Premier Sports seems to have changed.
I don't think Premier Sports is currently attractive enough to go into a pack but if it carries on acquiring better sports rights then I could see it being as strong as Eurosport and packaged accordingly.
