Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
The trouble is that many are not happy when there is an absence of new channels coming to VM. Take another look at those posts in 2014 on this thread and look how happy people were then!
What amazes me is that people are satisfied even when the channels added contain 100% drivel! It is so sad to see posts pleading for the likes of Tru TV, etc, etc.
I don't care whether it is new channels, more streaming services or more on demand - what matters to me is good quality content. Many (although not all) would be happy to ditch all the reality and dumbed down channels in favour of Sky Atlantic and ITV Encore. If only there was a way we could do this.
Cue here for Dave 42 to post that there's not a cat in hell's chance of SA coming to Virgin any time soon....

Liberty and Vodafone are back in merger talks again, but at the moment they are only looking at their respective Dutch operations for now (as if it'll stop at just that...):

We think it will be £99 upfront fee plus installation.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
With Sky following VM's way of "renting" the hardware (new boxes) to customers, It seems they are trying to keep the price down to a minimum...I did read packages starting at £42 with the Sky Q, but didn't say exactly how much of that was for the box itself.
I hope VM can try to keep costs down too....but I agree that there will be an installation fee, plus a (INSERT NAME) box fee like the other boxes they have.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Does anyone think the new TiVo box rumour is just a misunderstanding and what is actually on its way is a software update for the existing hardware platform?

Hmmm. Your "drivel" is another persons likes.
Personally, ITV Encore is just repeats in the main, so in my opinion, pointless

From what I understand, there is (was) a new Tivo in trial, but it encountered problems.
As I was not on the trial however, I cannot say this for 100%

I would definitely be interested in your reasons for asking such a question.
Have you heard a rumour or do you have insight? I remember another interestingly worded post from you a while ago that suggested it may be the latter.

ITV Encore are supposedly adding new content in 2016. I think ITV said that the first year would consist of repeats of their best dramas and 2016 would bring new content. I assume the new content will filter down to regular channels at a later date.

I think that there will be a new box and also a major update of all the older Tivo boxes as well?
Also they have been changing the SA V+ boxes for Tivo, so something is on the horizon?

If the following posted in the Sky Q and VM answer???? thread is anything to go by I think there is a new box on the way.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
The Olympics. The boxes that only do MPEG2 are at the end of their life. Since the last time the Olympics took place, new HD channels have appeared on the streams that were used so moving to AVC/H.264 encoding frees up room to have both.
Rights for the Olympics this time have gone to Eurosport, who are owned by Discovery, in which John Malone the Liberty Global chairman has a very substantial stake. If there were problems it wouldn't look good for him.

As I understand it the reason for swapping out the older SA V+ boxes is that in the very near future they will no longer be capable of receiving much of the Sky channels' output due to a new method of encoding. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me if I'm wrong.
Virgin Media must introduce a new TiVo box if only to compete with Sky Q and to be able to show 4K when it becomes available. Increased capacity (and more tuners) would be welcome, too.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
The current V+ HD box swap activity is due to changes to how Sky Sports and Movies HD are broadcast. Nothing to do with the Olympics at this stage.
