Getting minus errors

I'm 95% sure it shouldn't be going backwards

Re: Getting minus errors

I'm pretty sure that if there are no issues with your connection or speed, then I think the negative values are nothing to worry about. Someone else may be able to clarify this better than I have.

Well about 5 minuets after this the amount of errors went into the millions the connection reset 5-6 times then came back but the upstream was down for about 6 hours before reconnecting

Roll over of an "int" data-type? The coder probably never contemplated pre and post RS errors in the 100,000's

Even resting the counters just makes it go to -1

Remember this information is aimed at a "professional" not the customer and you don't want to waste valuable memory for no reason.

The going to -1 immediately on resetting may be interesting but probably not.

Its been all over the damn place since last night with it dropping 5 times over the course of 10 minuets then the connection just randomly dropping to sub 100kbs a second then coming back and now the errors are just going backwards and going into the millions randomly, i'm completely clueless as to what is happening

It's a feature of how the RS errors are calculated. Ignore it. Treat -ve the same as +ve.

Disconnections can cause a high number of RS errors, while it's trying to resync and reconnect.

You should always reset the RS errors after a reconnection (assuming your GUI has that feature).

Re: Getting minus errors

A feature, eh - Muddie!

Maybe a 10dB forward Path Attenuator would annul the post-RS errors.

The -ve sign on the RS errors, yes a feature of the calculation method.

No, won't have any affect. Maybe add a bit of noise if it's a dodgy FPA.

Re: Getting minus errors

It's popcorn time, Muddie!

When an integer goes negative, it's because of the integer type when the value overflows. Is that what you mean by a "feature"? i.e. a nice piece of sarcasm? In which case I've been a bit of a thicko!

Thge power level on this cheap equipment is very close to maximum in range value that VM recommend. So there could well be something overdriven which might account for the errors.

The power levels only started getting this high when it was getting really cold outside otherwise it was normally 7-8
