Returning obsolete kit

This old chestnut I'm afraid!

A week ago, via the broadband speed increase, I replaced my SH1 with a SH2 which arrived in a self install kit. After having the new modem set-up, I again called VM (150) and asked about the old modem, and I was informed that I could put it in the box that the new modem arrived in, and drop it off at high street shop that participates in the 'Collect Plus' parcel scheme. The existing tracker barcode will see it returned to Virgin Media.

You may guess what happens next, but I'll just confirm your hypotheses; after finding such a shop, and upon scanning the Yodel tracking code, the system didn't want to know and thus I was unable to return the parcel.

I've pretty much reached the limit of effort that I am willing to put in to returning the SH1 (I can't imagine they are being refurbished anymore), so I am very likely just to sling the box in the back of the cupboard. Will VM have an issue with that or ought I summon up some more will power to query this further with customer services?

nope, I have had plenty of new modems over the years and even though they have sent me a letter saying somebody would come round and pick it up it never happened. I ended up taking all of them down to the local council tip to make sure they got disposed of properly.

Re: Returning obsolete kit

Only TiVO's & SHub2/2ac's are return jobs now. Everything else can go to recycle.

Re: Returning obsolete kit

Do they accept the boxes in the VM shops? I don't know if one is near you, but there is one in Croydon that is near me. I don't live that near Croydon, but it is one of the nearest major shopping centres to me, so I do have reason to go there from time to time, and I'm considering getting rid of my old V+ box (never really used it).
