Content infringement 2015
I fequently see people complaining about those who download pirated content and must admit doing a little myself but...
Is the existance of pirated content and the attempts of the various content protection bodies attempt to be likend to the sea and King Canute??
Are the content holding bodies still slow in providing new content?
Is it right that one country should get content weeks before another considering the power of the internet now?
Aparrently there were over half a billion takedown requests in 2015 just via Google!
That said there is no available record of what they were infringing considering the confidentiality rulings Google has had to conform to.
AFIAK if you complain about a photo of you it will be taken down but according to Torrent Freak they are copyright infringement takedowns.
Personally I think they are just wasting their time and Googles and should make their content available quicker worldwide.

Re: Content infringement 2015
To my mind the only use for 100MB plus speeds is to download copyrighted content eg. films, music.
VM and other BB provider must know this and all but outwardly condone it e.g. they boast about how fast films can be downloaded in their adverts - you can bet 99% aren't downloaded legally.
If it was properly clamped down on, the ISPs would see a serious dip in their profits as there would be little need for these speeds.

And 10MB is sufficient for that.

So you're a pirate then?

Just lost your HD iPlayer and your top end HD Netflix. You'll not even be getting 720p on anything with that. Please remember we're going into 2016 not 1996
10MB is more than sufficient to download a 700MB movie in around 9 minutes. If someone was desperate they'd do it on any speed.
Do you fancy popping Netflix about a few people whilst someones bashing away at the new CoD and someone else is using the PC all whilst on the sufficient 10MB.
mobile phones
iPads and tablets
notebooks
e-readers (such as Kindle)
desktop PCs
games consoles
Apple TV and media players
Sky+ boxes.
YouTube, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Lovefilm, Netflix, Sky Go and BT Vision Sky Anytime Plus and Apple iTunes
Spotify
Skype and Apple FaceTime
Carbonite, Livedrive and Apple iCloud.
It was nice of you to narrow all the circumstances down to those of your own though.
Whilst we're still here we should move onto the current generation of gaming. 60gb games. That would 'only' take me 14 hours of using up my entire bandwidth or I could just opt for 152 and have it all done in an hour, or even spread it over a few hours and barely half the bandwidth. Now apply that logic to 81 other games in steam, 11 others in Origin and every single DRM free Humble bundle there's been. Uplay too in fact. Except I only have two SSD's and 1TB HDD, poor old me eh, have to uninstall and re-download where needed to keep it fresh.
Almost forgot about my Google Play content, HD movies.
I mean I could sit back on 10MB and use my stuff at the end of the month, or I could just stick with 152 and use it now.
So there's one gaping hole straight through this opinion:

Re: Content infringement 2015
TiVo has only 10mb and that plays Netflix and iplayer in HD just fine.

Re: Content infringement 2015
I suppose the end users like myself are responsible for downloading copyrighted stuff but who puts it out there in the first place. Take the last few weeks for example, I`ve never known so many screeners to be put out there, so where did they come from. The only people who could have leaked them are the ones who the discs were sent to in the first place.

What? No.
In our household we use Netflix, Amazon Video (And Music if I can ever be bothered) for streaming, Steam, GOG et al for gaming and have not pirated content of any kind for years.
Having 200mbps internet means that we can stream on one device, download about half a billion game updates on Steam (Between me and my partner we own around 3000 games or so) and still use the multitude of internet connected devices without so much as a hiccup.
Before the likes of Steam and the streaming services, as well as tech like TiVo I had some sympathy with those who had little other option than the piracy route for a lot of content but not now. It personally annoys the hell out of me when I see people here gloating about how much they have "torrented". In our case we've got too much stuff anyway, let alone nicking some more.

you might want to wait 12 hours to download the latest game but others may not want to. There's probably more legal uses for high speed downloading these days than at any other time in the history of the internet.
From cloud backups, streaming, downloading of paid for films, games..etc.. all need some form of high speed download.
Also your 10Mb would probably still have it's old 512Kb upload so that 1GB Christmas video that you want to show the grandchildren in Australia via the cloud would now take 4 hours to upload that's if it didn't time out half way through.
I'm not though holy as though as I have a premium news server with 200Mb download speed yet these days I see it as a PVR more than anything with for example my last download of all 3 eps of Fungus the bogeyman in 1080p to steam stutter free during peak times instead of having it pause every 30 secs whilst it buffers on my Tivo as I was to full up to record

Re: Content infringement 2015
Threads like these tend to be skewed towards those that do not download illegally. As those that do probably will keep it to themselves rather than be open about it on forums etc.
There's nothing that 150mb can't do that 50mb could do. I really don't see then need for 200mb, but if it's available then it's more of a case as why not but I wouldn't pay any extra for it though as it is a bit of a pointless upgrade.

If upload was syncronous then yes I would agree with you but some purely get the higher speeds for the higher uploads.
Me personally it's just a case of I can't be bothered waiting for a download to finish when I know that it could have finished hours ago no matter what it is I'm downloading (apps, movies, tv, cloud, games, legit or not)

Re: Content infringement 2015
I think something is missing here
100mb down great but only 6mb up? If I could get 100mb down and say 25mb up then I would not need to have the fastest as my need is primarily on the upload
