I don't think UK politics has ever been as vacant as it is now Tory's that are out of touch only pausing when the opposition shouts loud enough then sneak it in later when there's something else to concentrate on. Labour well what can you say about them shambles would be a compliment at the minute I can only think the reason labour is where it is, is a part of some plan by the non Looney in the party to show what happens when the patients take over the asylum. If it isn't then we are all royally screwed as lack of any opposition will see these currant bunch of Tory's in for God knows how long and I don't even want to think of the wreck of a nation that will be left after they have finished.

I saw blame being pointed at the majority who didn't vote as to why we are where we are, but here's the problem I've been a conservative voter my entire adult life and until the last general election had voted all my adult life. I cannot vote for this conservative party in good conscious but as a Tory couldn't vote for labour so what am I to do go to the polls and spoil my ballot for what it's an action with no meaning in our political system. I do actually believe the currant political class want apathy they want tens of millions staying at home because then it's easier and if it isn't some form of plan then that's more depressing because it means our expectations and standards for our elected representatives have dropped far below what we should accept.

We have millions of voters in this country with no one to vote for as no one really has an interest in representing them or the values they hold, corporate corruption is rampant in our political system as it is elsewhere in the world the whole thing is a giant mess that no one who can just isn't interested in sorting and that is one of many factors leading to voter apathy and non voting.
We had millions of voters who did bother to vote and got nothing for their trouble, I'm no fan of the kippers anymore but 1 mp for 5 million votes isn't democracy

The majority did vote - 66.1% of the electorate voted.

Since those values are wide and varied, and often self-centred, I'm not sure what political system could solve your dilemma - Jeremy Corbyn is representing a reasonable minority's views, but lots of others (not just the media) strongly oppose those views, so how do we design/implement a political system that represents such diverse views and aims without descending into anarchy?

You make some excellent points. The point I was making about Osbourne is that he, or as you point out, his party, is taking Britain into places that a lot of people didn't ask to be taken. The point about the 2 party system is that the "other" party is there to try and check the extravagance of the party in power, especially if it has a small majority. The problem is today, there is no credible opposition and so this Government can do what it wishes.

Look what it plans to do to the only people who really stood up to them in the recent benefits/police debate: the House of Lords will be put in its place and legislation will be introduced so it cannot do it again.

Who will hold this government to account? The Lords won't be able to, Labour will be naval gazing for who knows how long, the SNP, by definition, have no real interest in the UK as a whole.

So, we are all on George & Dave's rollercoaster ride into their cosy "One Nation", "We are all in it together" future whether we like it or not ..
