Start with your Irish ancestors. Tracing them doesn't need to be as difficult as you think depending on how far back they came over and providing you know which townland they were from.
Most of the census returns before 1901 were destroyed by fire at the Four Courts in 1922 but the civil registration records and many of the parish registers (particularly the RC ones) that were deposited there survived.

My happy thought - went out with my dad today and got loads of stuff to decorate my chair again - 
Tinsel, battery lights, battery wreath - and a little battery Christmas tree 
If I still feel fluffy after getting it all on there I'll post a picture later on.
