Speed Upgrade Questions?
I received an email from virgin media stating that I was entitled to a speed upgrade, currently on 50Mb, new speed increase is 70Mb. Checked online when the speed increase would be ready, it is already ready.
Few questions. I selected to add the upgrade and I was informed that there was no extra charge. Am I entering into a new contract if I continue with this upgrade? also, is the upgrade carried out automatically or is there a need for an engineer to call?

It will be a new contact and no need for an engineer.

Re: Speed Upgrade Questions?
you can continue with current equipment, they'll just send a new config file down to the shub which tells it it is allowed to go faster. In previous upgrades the free upgrade has tied you in to another 12 month contract but afaik it is not the case this time round.

Re: Speed Upgrade Questions?
OK, a bit of doubt if this speed upgrade is a new contract, anyone confirm either yes or no?

Re: Speed Upgrade Questions?
I was going to say. How can you enforce a new contract on someone when they have no way of refusing the speed upgrade?
It says for me it's coming to 70 end of this month but there is nothing to say I can refuse.

Re: Speed Upgrade Questions?
You can refuse by not accepting it; it is an opt in upgrade and not a mandatory one. The only way you will be upgraded is if you either ring up and ask for it or if you activate it online. You can either stay as you are now and VM are happy for you to do so or you can request the new free upgrade at no charge with a new 12 month contract.
That is all hypothetical because as we have already said this particular upgrade does not involve a new 12 month contract but that is how it has worked in the past.

Re: Speed Upgrade Questions?
Hi all,
I have a £7 per month loyalty discount which states on my bill 'if you change this package you may lose this discount'.
If I choose to accept this free speed upgrade does this mean I have changed the package and will lose the discount?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Speed Upgrade Questions?
I doubt it as it's not a package change. And no it's not a new contract. Well I've had the upgrade and not been told so.

Why does the ACTUAL virgin speed fall behind more with every upgrade you pay for, (? is it the same bit of cable from the roadside that was stuck in 20+ years ago by C&W) or is the network just falling behind???

Hi Samtayloryork,
Sorry to hear you're not getting full speeds. I've checked your connection and everything looks perfectly fine from here. Your power levels, contention and SNR all look great. What speeds are you seeing? Also are you connected wired or wirelessly?

yesterday

Typical 17.4 - 32.37 down-load 9.51 - 14.19 up-load range; wired connection. (taken from random 3 different on line applications including WHICH)
This morning 17.11.15 at 06:56 am, WHICH measured 16.34 down-load 10.55 up-load Mb/s
HOW MUCH SLOWER IS IT GOING TO GET WITH NEXT UPGRADE.
What is meant by fibre connection, how far does the fibre go??? to the area, to the county, to the street, to the old C&W copper in the garden; what is your advertisements saying. WE (Virgin) have a high speed 'network' but YOUR connection speed is 1950's SORRY?????? PAY MORE FOR OUR NETWORK upgrade. but your connection speed will degrade.
ANY IDEAS

Quite a few but all depending on whether you want this answered here or on the VM Community or on both?
Also whether there's also a 48hr timeline for compliance on this forum as well?

Just trying to find answers from any source, ie the '?Speed Upgrade?' is their any real technology behind it or just a VW moment.

AFAIK and I may be wrong but there is a software update to DOCSIS 3. We went to 70 last week, it works, it's not a gimmick, no issues.
