£5 a month off if you agree to extend your contract.

Apparently, VM are in the process of contacting customers offering a discount to people who agree to be locked into another one year contract.

Has anybody here received an offer yet?

If not, would you participate in such an offer from them?

Surely if your willing to re-sign to virgin for an extended period of time your better off going through retentions to get a better deal than that.

Good point, might be useful for those who don't like negotiating though.

Depends how much your service is? £5 off a £25 bill is a good deal but £5 off £130 may not be

Virgin are running scared over the new Sky set top box launch:

http://www.techradar.com/news/televi...it-be--1307880

Presumably Virgin plan to keep flogging the slow, old, knackered Tivo for the time being.

Re: £5 a month off if you agree to extend your contract.

I have found that when I call them up to do a package change - or virtually anything - they seem to recheck and often offer some form of discount.

My mother called them to get her V box upgraded to a VHD box - and they offered her TiVo instead at 26p less per month.

Virgin's Tivo is slow and knackered. Hence Virgin are scared of Sky, who are going to the next generation (and lets face it, knowing Sky, their new box will be amazing).

VM are not running scared at all, no where in that article does it mention VM.

Its also not clear what exactly it is Sky are launching, could be a new box or another new streaming service.

TiVo is a great product and I for one could not managed without it and would never switch to Sky. Mine is most certainly not slow or knackered at all.

Yes the hardware could do with a refresh perhaps with a bigger HDD but the software is great and costantly being improved.

Sorry to state the bleeding obvious but they already have a streaming service it's called Now TV. They also stream content via Sky Go for Sky customers.

My Tivo works just fine the only thing it could do with is faster menus

Sorry to state but I did say 'another' new streaming service or new stb.

Pay attention

Being that it's a Sky invitation I'm pretty sure it'll be a Sky product , the streaming service (Now TV) is a completely separate service. The video mentions Sky+ so I'd say it's safe to say its either some kind of new STB software with more advanced functionality or a new STB. I'd imagine it will include the ability to view PVR recordings on mobile/tablet devices.

Sky (Satellite) and Now TV are aimed at completely different types of customers.
