Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

Let's be honest here, it's all speculation and rumour, all it does is create some discussions about what may, or more to the point, what will not, be coming to Virgin, in this day and age there is so much information going around that you could make up anything you like, and the extremely gullible amongst us will bite like a fish jumping at a fly.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

We've almost certainly reached peak linear TV in the UK now. There is no content left for which there is a viable audience that does not already have a home on an existing channel or on-demand service. There might be occasional upsets if a big player decides to shake things up when rights are up for grabs (like BT entering the sports market) and there will continue to be HD launches when Virgin and the channel owners consider it financially viable but what else could possibly launch that anyone would really care about today?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

Imo VM really need to buck up their idea in the on demand side of things, there are also a couple of channels which VM should really have as everyone else has them including freeview aka SPIKE and trutv however both of these are available for free online and have a catch up service now.
If VM get competetive again in the on demand market they could be a very attractive option.

I guess my point was that traditionally this thread has been mostly about new channel launches and we're now at a time where there won't be so many of those. New things on Virgin's VoD - whether on the current or some future whizzy platform - don't have quite the same excitement or discussability as the big channel launches of old.

That's perhaps a problem for this forum as its slant has always been more towards technology than programmes. There are already a lot less messages than there used to be.

I agree friend. The fact as well as they don't have trutv or spike both on freeview is astonishingly bad

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

It isn't just missing freeview channels, there are deals to be done for HD simulcasts, Freeview have 4seven HD and CH4+1 HD, given as a lot of channels probably pipe direct into VM it wouldn't be such a big exercise, ITV+1 HD is crying out to be launched...

A channel 4 contact said about a year ago that 4seven HD and Channel 4+1 HD are mainly there to promote the Freeview service and use up capacity that would otherwise be wasted. It is hoped to extend these channels to other platforms in the medium term.

Not sure about that, theone, many of the channels we don't get are either not worth a light or are 'here today, gone tomorrow'.

http://www.a516digital.com/ (see the vu tv item).

We need to get out of the mindset that we must have every single channel available, no matter how much dross is pumped out.

Sky Atlantic, AMC and ITV Encore are the only additional channels worth having, IMHO.
