BenMcr has stated that Discovery is a strategic partner for Liberty Global. What this means in practice I'm not sure. As a quoted company with slightly different shareholders than Liberty Global, they must act in their own best interests.

The SEC would be down on the company like a ton of bricks if they acted against the interests of Discovery's shareholders regardless of Malone's involvement in both entities. Similarly Discovery's share price would wilt.

1. Believe this is scheduled to take place next month.
2. Don't think the situation will alter just because of the rebrand. In the longer terms, the two offerings may converge but channels like RTE One will still be for the island of Ireland only.
