Virginmedia servers for ntlworld pop email

Hi, Today our email changed to the new system and we had problems (all emails stored on the server downloaded to our computers again). In going through the changes and settings I found that "recent" is no longer necessary and also found the pop3 ntlworld mail box servers and this reminded me that I changed our mail box servers to pop3.virginmedia.com years ago when having problems with ntl's. My question is, is this a change backwards that I need to make? All our devices are downloading email fine now.
Thanks for any help on this question.

No, as far as I'm aware you don't need to change it back. If everything is now working it should continue to work.

Re: Virginmedia servers for ntlworld pop email

Thanks. I think we might have a problem in that email I downloaded to my laptop this morning and then deleted, re downloaded this afternoon. Do you think the "correct" server might prevent this? Or could it just be a teething glitch with the new system?

Re: Virginmedia servers for ntlworld pop email

Are you still using recent in the username?

Also currently the new mail system is partly ignoring he POP delete command - it will delete the mail from the POP queue so you shouldn't get it again from a POP client. However you'd still see it in an IMAP client or webmail. Deleting it via IMAP or Webmail gets rid of it for good.

Re: Virginmedia servers for ntlworld pop email

Thanks for your reply and apologies for slow response. No, I deleted recent on all our devices so that is not the problem. Also, all devices are set to leave email on the server so I only delete it via webmail. We are using POP not IMAP on all devices. When I updated my iPhone to iO9 yesterday, my number of unopened messages changed to 3,229! I have no idea where it got that number from (having trawled through opening all up on the server and deleting old email when I had problems with our laptops email). Hopefully it will all settle down. Our most recent email is downloading as expected on all our devices, so that is good news.
