Construction issue

I have moved into a new-build house on an old street. According to the VM website, VM broadband is available in my area WN59SA but when the installation guys arrive they log a construction issue.

There are no less than three different CATV grids outside my house in a street that has had cable for years so I am at a loss to understand the issue.

Yesterday the pre-installation guys arrived and spent an hour delving into those CATV grids and digging alongside my fence line. They sank into the ground a small black triangular box about 6 or 7 inches along each side. Then drew some T shaped diagrams on the tarmac.

Despite this, my installation was cancelled because of this construction issue. Now I have to wait for some manager dude from Manchester to sort stuff out and I'm left with no connection and an indeterminate installation date.

What is going on? Anyone shed any light?

Re: Construction issue

This isn't an official Virgin Media forum, but as it happens I work for them and I think I have found your details. It appears there are in-use fibre and power cables occupying the duct which prevents a cable being pulled to your home. As you say, it is in the hands of Manager Dude.

The good news is VM are currently very focused on expanding the network into these borderline areas ("Project Lightning"), so hang in there and it should get dealt with.

ps. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Construction issue

Thanks Spiderplant.

One can't ask questions about a specific provider? In that case I should add that I've also ordered BT broadband so it's a case of first come, first served. VM had better get a wiggle on if they want new business!

Re: Construction issue

Fair enough, exactly what I'd do in the situation.
