Potential terrorists released on bail?

Quote:
Three young British men who were stopped from travelling to Syria from Turkey and arrested have been released on bail, the Metropolitan Police says.

The three teenagers, two aged 17 and one 19, from north-west London were flown back to the UK on Saturday night.

They were arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts and have been bailed pending further inquiries.

And what if they just "disappear"? Potential terrorists in our midst? Lunacy.

And if there isn't enough evidence to charge them? Not sure we want to go down the internment route.

Re: Potential terrorists released on bail?

Our borders are so porous and 'controls' ludicrous that we have little idea who's coming here whether legally or illegally. Events at our ports over recent years have shown the seriousness with which we treat our borders. People whose origins, motives, criminal records etc. are entirely unknown being picked up by the side of the road, given a piece of paper and then set free and old to report to some office somewhere. It's bizarre.

Re: Potential terrorists released on bail?

Let's hope they don't blow a few, or a few thousand British people up whilst they're on bail.

Re: Potential terrorists released on bail?

Three teenage fantasists who are now well and truly on the MI6 radar? If they had the means and the will to blow things up in the UK they wouldn't have been trying to get to Syria.

I don't think any proper terrorists will dare go anywhere near them now. I don't see any immediate danger from them.

Anybody is 'potentially' a terrorist do we lock everybody up? and the last time I looked traveling to Syria is not a crime. This is the biggest problem faced by our security forces ,who do you lock up ? we can't just announce that anybody traveling abroad to Syria is going to be locked up as a terrorist

The police *have* to be careful here. Apparently part of the reason that ISIL is able to recruit these teenagers is that they feel alienated by our authorities. Holding three teenagers without following existing laws and regulations (which, depending on the offence, may require Bail to be offered) is only going to make that worse.
